14,500㎞ボ－トを漕いだ女性達

去年の４月に４人の女性がアメリカ（サンフランシスコ）から手漕ぎボートに乗ってオーストラリアに向かって行きました。
船の長さは９mで、幅は２mです。
今年の１月に船はオーストラリアに、ようやく無事に到着きました。
手漕ぎボートで太平洋（14,500㎞）を航海出来た世界で初めて女性だけのクルーでした。

途中で、時々船は大きな波に襲われました。
大きな鮫に遭遇する事もありました。
機械の故障もありました。
しかし、女性達の話によると、９ヶ月間小さな手漕ぎボートに閉じこもった生活の彼女達の一番大きなチャレンジは仲違いがない様に努める事でした。

私達は、教会を航海する船に例える事ができます。
教会でよく聞く言葉は「交わり」です。
「交わり」の英語は“Fellowship”です。
ある先生は“Fellowship”をこの様に説明しました。
“Fellow”の意味は「仲間」です。
“Ship”の意味は「船」です。
教会員は、同じ船に乗っている仲間達です。

教会も激しい嵐に遭う時があります。
吹き付ける雨はありませんが、教会員を狙う獅子がいます。
「身を慎み、目をさましていなさい。あなたがたの敵である悪魔が、ほえたけるししのように、食い尽くすべきものを捜し求めながら、歩き回っています。」
Ⅰペテロの手紙5:8

“小倉聖書バプテスト教会”と言う船に一緒に船上している私達も、
太平洋を渡った女性達と同じ様に、教会の一致を保つために務めましょう。

「謙遜と柔和の限りを尽くし、寛容を示し、愛をもって互いに忍び合い、 平和のきずなで結ばれて御霊の一致を熱心に保ちなさい。」
エペソ人への手紙4:2-3

「あなたがたはみな、心を一つにし、同情し合い、兄弟愛を示し、あわれみ深く、謙遜でありなさい。」

THE WOMEN WHO ROWED 14,500 Km 　

In April of last year four women boarded a rowboat at San Francisco and headed for Australia. The boat was nine meters long and two meters wide. In January of this year the women reached Australia. They became the first all-female crew to row across the Pacific Ocean (14,500 km).

On the way they were pummeled by huge waves. Sharks followed the boat. There were technical problems. However, according to the women, their biggest challenge was trying not to fall out with one other while cooped up in a small boat for nine months.

We could compare the church to a boat crossing the ocean. One of the words that we often hear at church is majiwari. The English translation of majiwari is “fellowship.” One pastor explained “fellowship” like this. A “fellow” is a companion and a “ship” is a boat. Church members are companions riding in the same boat.

There are times when the church too meets violent storms. There are no sharks following the church, but there is a lion who is after the church members.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (First Peter 5:8)

Like the ladies who crossed the Pacific Ocean, we who are riding in the boat called Kokura Bible Baptist Church should strive to maintain the unity of the church.
With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
(Ephesians 4:2-3)

All of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous. (First Peter 3:8)
