靴磨きの女性

東京に行ったなら、是非JR新橋駅に行って、中村幸子さんに靴を磨いてもらって下さい。
中村さんは66年前に静岡から東京に出て来ました。そして、結婚して彼女に５人の子供が生まれました。子供達を育てるために、中村さんはいろんな仕事をしました。
45年前に彼女は新橋駅の近くで靴磨きの仕事を始めました。

中村さんは、靴の細かいところまで磨くために、靴墨を自分の指に付けて、靴に擦り込みます。彼女の右手の中指は黒ずみ指紋も擦り切れています。
45年間仕事を続ける秘訣を聞かれた中村さんは答えました。
「毎日、良い日ばかりではないけれども、自分の仕事が誰かに役に立つと信じて働いています」

続けて教会で奉仕をしている皆さん、
中村さんの言葉に注目して下さい。
特に、疲れて奉仕を辞めたいと思う時、私達は中村さんと同じ態度でなければなりません。
つまり、私達は奉仕を続ける事に益があると信じて、時が良くても悪くても教会の奉仕を通して主に仕える事に励みましょう。

使徒パウロは初歩のクリスチャンに同じ事を勧めました。
まず、Ⅰコリントへの手紙15:58で彼は書きました。
「ですから、私の愛する兄弟たちよ。堅く立って、動かされることなく、いつも主のわざに励みなさい。あなたがたは自分たちの労苦が、主にあってむだでないことを知っているのですから。」

そして、彼はガラテヤのクリスチャンにこの勧めを送りました。
「善を行なうのに飽いてはいけません。
失望せずにいれば、時期が来て、
刈り取ることになります。」
ガラテヤ人への手紙6:9

今、伝道と奉仕に飽きていませんか。主のために働く人の報いを忘れましたか。
もう一度、この言葉を心に留めましょう。
「死に至るまで忠実でありなさい。そうすれば、わたしはあなたにいのちの冠を与えよう。」黙示録2:10b

　　　　

THE SHOESHINE LADY  

When you go to Tokyo, by all means go to Shinbashi Station and have Mrs. Sachiko Nakamura shine your shoes. Mrs. Nakamura moved from Shizuoka to Tokyo 66 years ago. She soon married and had five children. In order to raise her children, she did various jobs, but 45 years ago she began shining shoes near Shinbashi Station.

In order to get the shoe polish into the tiny areas of the shoe, she puts the polish on her fingers and rubs into the shoe. As a result, the fingerprint on the middle finger of her right hand has been worn away.

When asked the secret to working for a long time, she replied, “Good things won’t happen every day at my job. But I guess the secret is to have faith that your hard work will pay off.”

You that have been doing service at church for a long time, please pay attention to Mrs. Nakamura’s words.
Especially when we are tired and want to quit our service, our attitude should be the same attitude as the attitude of Mrs. Nakamura. In other words, believing that there is benefit in continuing our service, in the good times and in the bad times let’s be diligent in serving the Lord through our service at church.

Paul exhorted the same thing to the early Christians. In First Corinthians 15:58 he wrote, Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Also, he sent this exhortation to the Christians in Galatia.
Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (Galatians6:9)

Are you weary of evangelism and service? Have you forgotten the reward of the person who works for the Lord? Once more focus your heart on these words.
Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. (Revelation 2:10b)
