2つとも左の靴

アメリカにいる間に、私は新しい靴を２足買いました。
１足を箱詰めにして日本に送りました。もう１足を教会に履いて行くつもりでした。日曜日の朝、靴の箱を開けて新しい靴を履こうとした時、ビックリ！　大きな間違いに気がつきました。
日本に送った靴は、両方とも右足の靴でした。アメリカに残った靴は両方とも左足の靴でした。仕方がないので、渋々古い靴を履いて教会に行きました。
両足に左の靴は役に立ちません。聖書によると、両足に左の靴を履こうとする事は、次の二つの行動に似ています。
まず、良い行いを通して神様の御前で正しい人になろうとする事は、両足左の靴と同じ様に役に立ちません。

ローマ人への手紙3:20に書いてあります。
「律法を行うことによっては、だれひとり神の前に義とみとめられない」と書いてあります。

また、エペソ人への手紙2:8～9に
「私達は神様の恵みのゆえに、キリストを信じる信仰によって救われます。行いによるのではありません。」
クリスチャンになってから、自分の力に頼って信仰生活をしようとする事は、両足に左の靴を履こうとするのと同じ行動です。

ヨハネの福音書15:5でキリストで言われました。
「わたしはぶどうの木で、あなたがたは枝です。人がわたしにとどまり、わたしもその人の中にとどまっているなら、そういう人は多くの実を結びます。わたしを離れては、あなたがたは何もすることができない。」

忠実な信仰生活が出来るクリスチャンは、日々聖書と祈りを通してキリストと交わりをしているクリスチャンです。
ピリピ人への手紙4:13に、こう書いてあります。
「私は、私を強くしてくださるキリストによって、どんなことでもできるのです。」

キリストを信じる信仰以外の方法で天国に行こうとしている人も、自分自身の力に頼って神様に喜ばれる生活をしようとしている人も、両足に左の靴を履こうとしている人です。

　　　　

TWO LEFT SHOES　

I bought two pairs of new shoes while I was in America. I sent one pair of shoes to Japan and kept one pair with me to wear when I went to church. On Sunday morning I opened the box of shoes and noticed something that upset me terribly. The two shoes that I had sent to Japan were both shoes for the right foot. The two shoes that I had kept in America were both shoes for the left foot. There was nothing to do but to wear my old shoes to church.

Two shoes for the left foot are not any help at all. According to the Bible, there are two actions that resemble trying to wear two left shoes. First of all, the action of trying to become righteous before God by your own good works is similar to trying to wear two left shoes. In Romans 3:20 it is written, By the deeds of the law there shall be no flesh be justified in his sight.
Also, according to Epeshians 2:8-9, we are saved by God’s grace through faith in Christ, not by works.

After a person becomes a Christian, trying to depend on your own strength to live a Christian life is similar to trying to wear two left shoes. In John 15:5 Christ said, I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. The person who can live a faithful Christian life is the person who has daily fellowship with Christ through the Bible and prayer. In Philippians 4:13 it is written, I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

The person who is trying to go to heaven by his own good works and the Christian who is trying by his own power to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord are both trying to wear two left shoes.
