ヤギの呪い

1945年にシカゴ・カブスが大リーグのワールドシリーズに進出して試合をしました。
第４試合に ビリー・シアネス と言う人が飼っているヤギを試合に連れて来ました。しかし、スタジアムの入場口で彼は言われました。
「ヤギを球場に入場させる事は出来ません」
シアネスさんは抗議しました。
「しかし、私はチケットを２枚持っています！」と言うと
カブスのオーナーが現れて彼に言いました。
「あなたのヤギが臭いので、入場させる事はできません」
そして、怒ったシアネスさんはカブスに呪いをかけました。
「私の飼っているヤギをスタジアムに入場させるまでカブスは
ワールドシリーズでの優勝はない！」
不思議な事に、呪いの通りになりました。
1945年からカブスは一度もワールドシリーズに出た事がありません。
（しかし、今年カブスはワールドシリーズに出ています。ヤギの呪いが解けるか、証明されます)

聖書にもヤギの話がありますが、人々に呪いをかけるヤギではなくて、祝福を与えるヤギです。
レビ記16章にそのヤギの事が書いてあります。
日本語の聖書はヘブル語の単語「アザゼル」をそのまま使っています。「去って行くヤギ」と言う意味です。
英語の聖書には「scapegoat」と書いてあります。
「身代わり」と言う意味です。
イスラエルの贖いの日に大祭司は自分の手をヤギの頭にのせてイスラエルの民の罪を告白しました。
その行動を通して人々の罪を負わせました。そして彼らはヤギを荒野に放って、ヤギは人々の罪を運び去りました。
もちろん、人々の罪を運び去ったヤギは私達の罪を取り去って下さるイエス・キリストの「ひな形」です。

十字架の上で私達の身代りになって下さったイエス様は御自分を信じる人々の罪を取り除いて下さいます。
（ヨハネの福音書1:29)

「キリストはやぎと子牛との血によってではなく、ご自分の血によって、ただ一度、まことの聖所に入り、永遠の贖いを成し遂げられたのです。」
ヘブル人への手紙9:12に書いてあります。

　　　　
THE CURSE OF THE GOAT  

In 1945 the Chicago Cubs appeared in the MLB World Series. A man named Billy Sianis brought his goat to the fourth game. However, at the entrance to the stadium he was told, “You cannot bring in the goat.” Mr. Sianis protested, “But I have two tickets.” Finally, the owner of the Cubs appeared and told him, “You cannot bring the goat in because the goat stinks.”

Enraged, Sianis put a curse on the Cubs. “The Cubs will never win another World Series until you let the goat into the stadium.” Since that year, the Cubs have never even appeared in the World Series again. (Note: The Cubs are in the World Series this year. We shall see if the curse still remains.)

In the Bible too there is a story about a goat, but it is not a goat that brings a curse to people but a goat that brings a blessing. The story of that goat is written in Leviticus 16. The Japanese Bible uses the Hebrew word azazeru as it as. The meaning is “the goat that departs.” The word “scapegoat” is written in the English Bible. It means “substitute.”

On the Day of Atonement in Israel the high priest would lay his hands on the head of a goat and confess the sins of the people of Israel, and their sins would be transferred to the goat. Then they would release the goat in the wilderness, and the goat would carry away the sins of the people.

Of course, the goat that carried away the sins of the people is a symbol of Jesus Christ who takes away our sins. Jesus Christ, who became our substitute and died on the cross, will take away the sins of those who believe in Him. (John 1:29)
In Hebrews 9:12 it is written,
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood Christ entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
