白い嘘と黒い嘘

ある人は、嘘を２つの種類に分けます。
「小さな白い嘘」と「大きな黒い嘘」です。
私の英和事典によると、白い嘘は罪にならない嘘です。
もし、それが本当なら黒い嘘は罪になる嘘です。
聖書の中で神は、嘘を罪にならない白い嘘と罪になる黒い嘘に分けていません。神の目から見て、全ての嘘は罪になる黒い嘘です。

箴言12:22に
「偽りのくちびるは主に忌みきらわれる」と書いてあります。

コロサイ人への手紙3:9に
「互いに偽りを言ってはいけません。」と書いてあります。

アメリカのプリンストン大学に Neil Garrett と言う神経科学の研究者がいます。彼の研究の結果によると、いわゆる小さな嘘を言う習慣はもっと大きな嘘を言う習慣に至ります。
彼は小さな嘘を言う習慣を「滑りやすい坂」と例えました。

また、アメリカのマサチューセッツ大学で心理学を教えている Robert Feldman先生 は Garrett先生 の研究を確認しました。
「小さい嘘を言う習慣には危険があります。それは、その習慣がもっと大きな不正直な行動に増大する危険です」

聖書によると、キリストを信じている人は、どんな嘘も小さな白い嘘でも大きな黒い嘘でも言ってはいけません。

エペソ人への手紙4章では
「クリスチャンは古い人を脱ぎすてて、新しい人を身に着るべきだ」と教えています。（エペソ人への手紙4:22-24）
エペソ人への手紙4:25節でこう書いてあります。
「ですから、あなたがたは偽りを捨て、おのおの隣人に対して真実を語りなさい。」

詩篇119:29でダビデは祈りました。
「私から偽りの道を取り除いてください。」この祈りに注目して下さい。
「私を偽りの道から取り除いてください」ではなくて、「私から偽りの道を取り除いてください。」と書いてあります。

私は、小さな白い嘘を言う習慣のあるクリスチャンに、この祈りをお勧めいたします。

　　　　

WHITE LIES AND BLACK LIES　

Some people divide lies into two categories – little white lies and big black lies. According to my English-Japanese dictionary, a white lie is a lie that is not a sin.

In the Bible God does not divide lies into little white lies and big black lies. To God, all lies are big black lies that are sins.
In Proverbs 12:22 it is written, Lying lips are abomination to the Lord.
In Colossians 3:9 it is written, Lie not one to another.

At Princeton University there is a neuroscience researcher named Neil Garrett. According to the results of his research, the habit of telling so-called little lies leads to the habit of telling even bigger lies. He calls the habit of telling little lies a “slippery slope.”

Robert Feldman, a professor of psychology at Massachusetts University, has confirmed Garrett’s research. He says,
“There is a danger in the habit of telling little lies. It is the danger that the habit will escalate into greater acts of dishonesty.”

According to the Bible, the person who believes in Christ should not tell any lies, not little white lies nor big black lies. Chapter four of Ephesians teaches that the Christian is a person who should put off the old man and put on the new man. (4:22-24) Verse 25 says, Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor.

In Psalm 119:29 David prayed, Remove from me the way of lying. Pay attention to the wording of this prayer. It is not, Remove me from the way of lying; rather, it is, Remove from me the way of lying. I exhort this prayer to all Christians who have the habit of telling little white lies.
