「ケンさん、助けてくださ～い」
5年前に天に召された私の友達の奥さんの泣きそうな声でした。
「どうしたのですか？」
「アメリカの税務署から手紙が来ました。」
私は、その意味が分かりませんでした。
「助けて下さ～い。」と言うので、私は八幡まで行って、その手紙を読みました。
ちょうどその時もう一人のアメリカ人が来ました。二人でその手紙の意味を彼女に説明しました。そして彼は、税務署の手紙の返事を送ってくれる手助けを約束してくれたので、彼女は安心しました。

その後で、私と彼女は食事に行きました。
食べている間に彼女にジョークを言いました。
「あなたは眠られないほどに心配していたけど、神様はあなたを助ける二人の御使いを遣わしましたね。」
笑いながら、彼女は答えました。
「ケンさんの背中に羽が見えますよ！」

私は自分を“御使い”と例えた時、彼女はすぐに“羽”の事を言いました。やはり、ほとんどの人は御使いに羽があると信じています。
しかし、御使いに羽があると教えている聖書の箇所は一つもありません。御使いに羽をつけたのはルネサンス（14-世紀～17世紀まで）の画家達でした。そして、現在ほとんど全ての絵本に出て来る御使いには羽があります。

ヘブル人への手紙1:14によると、
御使いは「人々に仕えるため遣わされる」ものです。
私は友達に仕える事ができたので自分を御使いと例えたのです。

本当に御使いが羽を持っているかどうか分かりません。しかし、クリスチャンには羽があります。
その羽は私達が隣人に仕える良い行いです。あなたの周りにいる人々はあなたの羽が見えるでしょうか。
「あなたがたの光を人々の前で輝かせ、人々があなたがたの良い行ない（あなたの羽）を見て、天におられるあなたがたの父をあがめるようにしなさい。」

THE WINGS OF CHRISTIANS　

“Ken, please help me.” It was the pitiful voice of the wife of my friend who went home to be with the Lord five years ago. “What’s the matter?” “I received a letter from the IRS in America and I don’t understand the meaning. Please help me.” I drove to Yahata and read the letter. Just then, another American came, and we explained the letter to her. He promised that he would prepare a reply to the IRS, so she was relieved.

Later we went to lunch. While we were eating, I decided to tease her. “You were so worried that you couldn’t sleep, but God sent two angels to help you.” Laughing, she replied, “I can see your wings.”

Of course, as soon as I mentioned angels, she mentioned wings. Most people believe that angels have wings. However, there is not one passage in the Bible that teaches that angels have wings. It was the artists of the Renaissance that gave wings to angels. Now the angels that appear in almost all picture books have wings.

According to Hebrews 1:14, angels are ministering spirits sent to serve people. I was able to serve my friend, so I referred to myself as an angel.

I don’t know if angels really have wings or not, but Christians have wings. Those wings are the good things we do when we serve other people. Can the people around you see your wings?
Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works (your wings), and glory your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
