今朝（月曜日の朝）私は困っています。プリンターで印刷したい書類が数枚あるのに、１枚も印刷する事が出来ません。プリンターに紙で詰まっているからです。私はその紙を少し取り除く事が出来たが、まだ機械の内部に紙が詰まっているようです。今週はプリンターに対する苛立ちで始まり、私を困らせています。
時々、クリスチャンは自分が困ってしまうような事に遭遇します。神様と自分の間にある祝福の管が詰まってしまうからです。なぜでしょうか。主な理由が三つあります。
まず、私達は神様の言葉を聞くけど、それを実行しないからです。

ヤコブの手紙1:25によると
「完全な律法、すなわち自由の律法を一心に見つめて離れない人は、すぐに忘れる聞き手にはならないで、事を実行する人になります。こういう人は、その行ないによって祝福されます。」

次に、私達は魂をむなしいものに向けるからです。
詩篇24:4-5に書いてあります。
「手がきよく、心がきよらかな者、そのたましいをむなしいことに向けず、欺き誓わなかった人。 その人は主から祝福を受け、その救いの神から義を受ける。」

また、私達の信仰生活のどこかに不忠実なところがあるからです。
箴言28:20によると
「忠実な人は多くの祝福を得る。」

最近どうですか。祝福されていますか。あるいは、あまり祝福されていませんか。もし、あまり祝福されていないなら、自分と神様の間にある祝福の管が不従順や虚しいものや不忠実のゆえに詰まっているかどうかよく考えましょう。

「幸いなことよ。悪者のはかりごとに歩まず、罪人の道に立たず、あざける者の座に着かなかった、その人。 まことに、その人は主のおしえを喜びとし、昼も夜もそのおしえを口ずさむ。 その人は、水路のそばに植わった木のようだ。時が来ると実がなり、その葉は枯れない。その人は、何をしても栄える。」 詩篇1:1-3

　　　　
JAMMED　

This morning (Monday) I am upset. There are several things I want to print, but I can’t print even one page because there is some paper jammed in my printer. I was able to remove some of it, but there is still paper jammed in the inner part of the printer. This week that began with irritation at the printer has me upset.

Sometimes Christians have similar experiences that upset them. It is because the pipeline of blessing between them and God is jammed. Why? There are three main reasons.

First of all, it is jammed because we hear the Word of God, but we do no obey it. According to James 1:25, He who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

Next, it is jammed because we have turned our soul toward vain things. In Psalm 24:4-5 it is written, He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord. (In the Japanese Bible, “idol” is “vain thing.”)

Also, it is jammed because somewhere in our faith-life there is unfaithfulness.
According to Proverbs 28:20,
A faithful man shall abound with blessings.

How has it been with you recently? Are you being blessed or are you not being blessed very much. If you are not being blessed very much, consider whether or not the pipeline of blessing between you and the Lord is jammed because of disobedience, vain things or unfaithfulness.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.
(Psalm 1:1-3)

アメリカには、日本で買えないピクルスの種類がいくつかあります。
その一つは「bread and butter pickles」 です。
1930年代の大恐慌の時に多くのアメリカ人はこのピクルスをパンとバターと一緒に食べたので、このピクルスに「bread and butter pickles」 と言う名前がつけられました。
私は「bread and butter pickles」 が大好きです。最近クリスティ先生がこのピクルスを作って、私にも少しくださいました。
そして先生は「このビンは底なしです。 ピクルスがなくなると、
私は、またビンを一杯にしてあげますよ！」と言いました。
今、私は毎日その底なしビンからおいしいピクルスを食べています。

私がもらった底なしピクルスのビンは尽きる事のない神様の愛ににています。
もし、私達が神様の愛をビンに入れる事が出来たら、私たちはそのビンが底なしであるとわかります。

エレミヤ31:3によると、
神様の愛は終わりがない「永遠の愛」です。

ヨハネの福音書3:16によると、
神様の愛は全ての人々を愛するえこひいきのない愛です。

ローマ人への手紙8:38-39によると、
神様の愛は私たちから離れる事のない愛です。

ここに尽きる事のない神様の愛を述べる賛美があります。

THE BOTTOMLESS JAR　

In America, there are several kinds of pickles that cannot be bought in Japan. One of those is “Bread and Butter Pickles.” During the Great Depression of the 1930’s, a lot of Americans ate these pickles with bread and butter, so the name “Bread and Butter Pickles” was given to this kind of pickle.

I love Bread and Butter Pickles. Recently when Mrs. Wyatt made some of these pickles, she gave me a jar of them. She said, “This jar is a bottomless jar. When the pickles are all gone, I will fill up the jar again.” Now I am eating a few pickles from the bottomless jar every day.

The bottomless jar of pickles is similar to God’s inexhaustible love. If we could put the love of God into a jar, we would see that it is a bottomless jar.

According to Jeremiah 31:3, the love of God is an eternal love that has no end.

According to John 3:16, the love of God that loves all people is an impartial love.

According to Romans 8:38-39, the love of God is a love that can never be separated from us.

7月 2日に第49回の JNSA (日本国家学生協会)の 大学対抗の英語の演説コンテストが行われました。
優勝者はソフィア大学（上智大学）の備前花奈子さんでした。
備前さんの演説のタイトルは「ライバルに打ち勝って」でした。
彼女は言いました。
「普通、ライバルは同じコンテストに参加する人です。
しかし、私のライバルは他の参加者ではありません。私のライバルは私自身です」
クリスチャンもそうです。「クリスチャンのライバルは誰ですか？」と聞かれしたら、多くの人々は「クリスチャンのライバルは悪魔です」と答えるでしょう。
確かに、悪魔はクリスチャンの最大の敵ですが、毎日主に喜ばれる生活をしようとするクリスチャンのライバルは自分自身です。

使徒パウロは、自分のライバルは自分自身であると分かっていました。Ⅰコリント人への手紙9:27で彼は書きました。
「私は自分のからだを打ちたたいて従わせます。それは、私がほかの人に宣べ伝えておきながら、自分自身が失格者になるようなことのないためです。」

また、ローマ人への手紙7:15でパウロは自分のライバルとの戦いについてこう書きました。
「私には、自分のしていることがわかりません。私は自分がしたいと思うことをしているのではなく、自分が憎むことを行なっているからです。」

全てのクリスチャンは毎日、同じ戦いをしています。聖書を読みたくない自分自身、祈りたくない自分自身、伝道したくない自分自身との戦いですから、私達も、備前さんと同じ様に、自分自身に打ち勝つ目標を目指しましょう。

「このように、あなたがたも、自分は罪に対しては死んだ者であり、神に対してはキリスト・イエスにあって生きた者だと、思いなさい。 ですから、あなたがたの死ぬべきからだを罪の支配にゆだねて、その情欲に従ってはいけません。 また、あなたがたの手足を不義の器として罪にささげてはいけません。むしろ、死者の中から生かされた者として、あなたがた自身とその手足を義の器として神にささげなさい。」

THE CHRISTIAN’S RIVAL　

On July 2nd the Japan National Student Association conducted its 49th Intercollegiate English Oratorical Content. The winner was Miss Kanako Bizen of Sophia University. The time of her speech was “Win Against the Rival.”

Miss Bizen said, “Talking of a rival, we usually come up with a person who competes in the same contest, competing with us. However, my rival right now is not another contestant in front of me. My rival is myself.”

It is the same with Christians. If the question were asked, “Who is the Christian’s rival?” many people would reply, “The devil.” Certainly, the devil is our greatest enemy, but the rival of the Christian who is daily trying to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord is himself.

The Apostle Paul knew that his rival was himself. In First Corinthians 9:27 he wrote,
But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

Also, in Romans 7:15 Paul wrote this about his battle with his rival.
For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.

Every Christian is fighting the same battle daily. It is a battle with self that does not want to read the Bible, with self that does not want to pray, with self that does not want to evangelize. Therefore, like Miss Bizen, let’s aim for the goal of winning against self.

Likewise, you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
(Romans 6:11-13)

先日、私は戸畑の教会で行われた
ギターとピアノの発表会に行きました。
ちょうど教会の近くの駐車場に着いた時、土砂降りになりました。
私は雨が止むまで車の中で待ちたかったけど小倉教会の方々の発表もあったので、彼等の発表に遅れたくありませんでした。
私は、傘を家に置き忘れて持って来ていませんでした。
車の中にある物を見た時、とても大きな買物袋がありました。その袋を頭の上にのせ教会まで走りました。
少し濡れましたが、彼らの発表に間に合いました。
もちろん、傘を買った時、私は今度、雨が降った時にそれを使いたいと思っていたが、必要の時に、その傘は近くになかったので、近くにある買物袋を使いました。

神様も同じような事をする時があります。
主の働きをする人を選ぶ時、どこかにもっと才能のあるクリスチャンがいるのに主は御自身の近くにるいクリスチャンを用いて下さいます。

ローマ人への手紙12:1に
「兄弟たち。私は、神のあわれみのゆえに、あなたがたにお願いします。あなたがたのからだを、神に受け入れられる、聖い、生きた供え物としてささげなさい。」
と書いてあります。
英語の聖書に「ささげなさい」は「プレゼント」です。
学者の説明によると「手の近くに置く」と言う意味です。

クリスチャンの皆さん、覚えましょう。
主に用いられるクリスチャンになるために必要なものはタレントや能力や実力ではなくて、自分を主の御手の近くに置く事です。

「私にとっては、神の近くにいることが、
　　　　しあわせなのです。」詩篇 73:28

　　　　

THE STRANGE UMBRELLA　

Last Sunday I went to a guitar and piano recital held at a church in Tobata. Just as I arrived at the parking lot near the church, there was a heavy rain. I wanted to wait in the car until the rain stopped, but some of the Christians from the Kokura church were going to participate in the recital, so I didn’t want to be late for their recitals.

I have an umbrella, but it was at the house. I looked around at the things in the car and found a rather large shopping bag. I put that bag above my head and ran to the church. I got a little wet, but I was in time for the recitals.

Of course, when I bought the umbrella, I bought it to use when it rained, but when I needed it, it was nowhere near me, so I used that which was near to me.

There are times when God does the same kind of thing. When God chooses the person to do His work, even though there may be a more talented Christian somewhere, God uses the Christian that is near Him

In Romans 12:1 it is written,
I beseech you, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God.
According to scholars, in the word “present” there is the meaning of “to place near the hand.”

Christians, let’s remember – that which is necessary to become a Christian who is used by the Lord is not talent or ability or capability; rather, it is to place oneself near the hand of God.
It is good for me to draw near to God.
Psalm 73:28

先日、私は、また嫌いな言葉を言わなければなりませんでした。
アメリカに旅立つ友達の家族を空港に送った時でした。
今度、彼女が日本に帰る時、おそらく九州には戻らないので、私は二度とこの地上で彼女に会わないかも知れません。去って行く彼等を見送った時、すごく悲しくなりました。

私の嫌いな言葉は「さよなら」です。とても悲しい言葉です。
アメリカに帰る度に、日本にいる家族と友達に「さよなら」と言う時、私の心は悲しみに満ちてしまいます。
そして、日本に帰る時、私はアメリカにいる家族と友達に「Goodbye」と言って、泣きながら飛行機に乗ります。
また、家族や友達の葬儀に出席する時、彼等に「さよなら」と言う事はとても辛い事です。
しかし、聖書によると、いつか私たちは誰も「さよなら」と言わない国に行きます。

アメリカに「The Land of No Goodbyes」という賛美があります。
下記の歌詞は「The Land of No Goodbyes」の翻訳です。
♪『この旅に私たちは家族と友達の祝福があります。「Goodbye」と言わなければならない時、悲しい事です。救われた人々がいつか住む場所があります。空の向こうにある安息の国です。もう誰も「Goodbye」と言わない。心が傷つけられる事はもうありません。亡くなった人のための涙もありません。私達は家族と友達と一緒になります。二度と別れる事がありません。私達が「Goodbye」のない国に着く時』♪

THE WORD I HATE 

Recently once again I had to say the word that I hate. It was when I took my friend’s family who are going to America to the airport. When she returns to Japan, she probably will not come back to Kyushu, so I may never meet her on this earth again. I was very sad as I watched them walk away.

The word that I hate is “Goodbye.” Every time I return to America and have to say “sayonara” to my family and friends in Japan, my heart is filled with sadness. And then, every time I return to Japan and have to say “Goodbye” to my family and friends in America, I am crying when I board the airplane. When I attend the funeral of family and friends and have to say, “Goodbye,” it is a painful thing.

However, according to the Bible, some day we will go to a land where no one will say “Goodbye.”

There is a song entitled “The Land of No Goodbyes.” This is the first stanza and chorus:

♪We've been blessed with friends and loved ones on this journey It's sad when we have to say goodbye
There is a place where the saved will live one day
In that land of rest far beyond the skies

Goodbyes won't be spoken, no hearts will be broken
Not a tear to dim our eyes over loved ones who have died We'll be together with family and friends
We'll never have to part again
When we reach that land of no goodbyes♪

Hallelujah! The time is coming when we will not have to say “Goodbye” any more.
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
