小倉教会の新会堂の建設が始まります。
しかし、その前に「起工式」を行なわければなりません。
「この式は普通「地鎮祭」と呼ばれています。地鎮祭はその土地の神（氏神）を鎮める儀式で、神式と仏式があります。クリスチャンの場合、起工式と言います」 地鎮祭の目的はその土地を清める事です。
起工式の目的は建物を建てる働き人の安全を祈る事です。

小倉教会の土地に井戸が残っています。
日本人にとって、起工式は非情に大切です。なぜなら、井戸に水の神様（水神様）が住んでいると言う迷信があるからです。もちろん、クリスチャンは真の神様は一人しかおられないとわかっていますが、多くの働き人の不安を取り除くのために、牧師は起工式を行って、土地と井戸にある霊を追い払う清めのお祈りをします。
日本の迷信と違って、聖書に出る井戸は恐ろしいものではなくて、喜ばしいものです。

ある時、旅の途中でキリストは疲れて、井戸の傍らに腰を下しました。ちょうどその時、一人の女が水を汲みに来ました。キリストは彼女に言われました。
「この水を飲む者はだれでも、また渇きます。 しかし、わたしが与える水を飲む者はだれでも、決して渇くことがありません。わたしが与える水は、その人のうちで泉となり、永遠のいのちへの水がわき出ます。」ヨハネの福音書4:13-14
英語の聖書には「その人のうちで井戸となり」と書いてあります。（ヨハネの福音書4:6-14）
私達がキリストを信じる時、神様は私達の心に生ける水が湧き出る井戸を入れて下さいます。

「いのちの泉」という賛美があります。
♪つみとはじのこの世には、こころみたすものなし
いのちのみずあふれるいずみ、主の十字架に来たれよ！
（繰り返し）
いのちのみずを飲めよ、喜びにこころおどる

THE WELL　　

Construction on the Kokura church’s new auditorium will begin this week. But first we have to conduct a ceremony called a kikooshiki. (Usually this ceremony is called a jichinsai, but jichinsai is a Shinto ceremony, so Christians call it a kikooshiki. The purpose of a jichinsai is to purify the ground. The purpose of a kikooshiki (beginning of construction ceremony) is to pray for the safety of the workers who will build the building.

There is a well on the Kokura church property, so to the Japanese, the kikoushiki is very important because there is a superstition that the god of water (called suijinsama) lives in the well. Of course, Christians believe that there is only one true God, but for the peace of mind of the carpenters and the workers, the pastor will conduct a kikooshiki and pray a prayer to drive away all the spirits in the well and property.

Different from the well in Japan superstitions, wells that appear in the Bible are not fearsome things but joyful things. One time, Christ became weary during a journey and sat on the side of a well. Just at that time, a woman came to the well to draw water. Christ said to her,
Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

When we believe in Christ, God puts a well of living water into our heart.

There is a song entitled “Springs of Living Water.”
♪I thirsted in the barren land of sin and shame,
And nothing satisfying there I found;
But to the blessed cross of Christ one day I came,
Where springs of living water did abound.
