A REAL HERO
The heroes of this world are people like athletes, singers, and movie stars. But last Sunday, I met a real hero.
She does not play any sport. She does not have a beautiful voice that entertains people. She has never appeared in a movie.
The truth is, she is already 77 years old. Her hair is gray. Her back is slightly bent. When she walks, she has to use a cane.
“She” is Missionary Hiroko Matsumoto who has been evangelizing in Senegal in West Africa for the past 28 years. When they reach the age of 50, many people begin thinking about retirement. At the age of 50 Miss Matsumoto went to Senegal.
I asked her, “Are you about ready to retire?” She replied, “No, I am going back to Senegal in May.” When I heard her reply, I remembered the words in Acts 15:26.
Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We could put the name of Hiroko Matsumoto in the place of the names of Barnabas and Saul.
At church we often use the word “surrender.” As I watched Miss Matsumoto leave the Kokura church, I thought, “That is the image of surrender.” In spite of age or the circumstances of life, the person who obeys the leadership of the Lord and does the will of God is the image of surrender.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. (Romans 12:1)
ドアの多い教会
THE CHURCH WITH MANY DOORS
Kokura Bible Baptist Church is a beautiful church, but it is not that big of a church. Although it is not a big church, it is a church with many doors. I counted the doors. There are 16 of them.
There is a door going from the outside to the genkan.
In contrast to Kokura BBC, there is only one door in heaven. In John 10:9, Christ said, I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
It is possible that the person who reads this verse in Japanese may think that Christ is one of many doors into heaven. (Watashi wa mon desu.) However, in the English Bible it is, “I am THE door.” If Christ had said, “I am A door,” there might be other doors into heaven. But Christ said, “I am THE door.” In other words, there are no other doors into heaven.
Christ spoke similar words in John 14:6. "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
There are many religions, but there is only one door into heaven. The person who wants to enter heaven must believe in Christ who is the only door.
アパマンショップはどこ?
先日、私はアパマンショップ小倉店に行かなければなりませんでした。過去に行った事があったので場所を覚えていました。
WHERE IS THE APAMAN SHOP?
The other day I had to go to the Apaman Shop (real estate office) in Kokura. I had been there before, so I remembered the location. I was confident that I could find the shop right away, so I did not take my GPS or the address or a map.
However, when I arrived at the location that I remembered, I could not find the shop. I knew it was somewhere in the vicinity, so for the next 30 minutes I drove around the area several times. As I searched for the shop, I became more and more upset. “If I have to return to my home and check the address, it will take twice as much time and I will have to pay the expressway toll twice.”
I finally gave up on finding the shop by myself and prayed to the Lord. “Lord, I do not have the time to go home and come back, and I do not want to pay the toll twice. Please help me.” The next moment, I saw the shop on the left side of the road. Thanking the Lord over and over, I went to the shop and took care of my business.
Through this experience, I remembered two things about prayer. First, prayer is not just for big problems. When there are various small problems in our daily lives, let’s pray then too.
The other thing that I remembered is that it is not good to make prayer our last resort. If I had prayed earlier, I would not have wasted 30 minutes of my time and gasoline.
When we have a problem, no matter how small a problem it may be, through prayer, let’s seek the help of the Lord right away.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6)

BENEATH THE CROSS
My friend made me a beautiful bed cover. Before making it, she asked me the size of my bed and my favorite color, and she made a blue bed cover that fits my bed exactly. There is a cross in the middle of the design of the bed cover. Every night I am sleeping beneath the cross.
Everyone who believes in Jesus Christ is also resting beneath the cross. According to Colossians 1:21, we were alienated from God and, in our mind, His enemies. However, in order to reconcile all things to Himself, God made peace through the blood of His cross.
(Colossians 1:20)
According to First John 1:7, the blood of the cross cleanses people who believe in Christ from all of their sins. Also, according to Ephesians 1:7, we receive forgiveness of sin through the blood of the cross.
Just as I am resting peacefully beneath the cross on the bed cover that my friend made for me, the soul of the Christian who is aware of these truths can be at ease.
♪[Beneath the cross of Jesus
I fain would take my stand,
the shadow of a mighty rock
within a weary land;
a home within the wilderness,
a rest upon the way,
from the burning of the noontide heat,
and the burden of the day.]
(First stanza of “Beneath the Cross of Jesus”)
