町の英雄

先日私は、テキサス州に行く途中オクラホマ州のペリーと言う小さな町のホテルに泊まりました。
フロントの女性が町の有名なレストランを紹介してくれて、そのレストランに行ってみました。
1926年に開店した歴史のあるレストランでした。
食事を待っている間に、私は壁に貼ってあるいろんな写真を見ました。そこには一人の警官が写っていました。
その写真の下にこう書いてありました。
「ティモシー・マクベイを捕まえた町の英雄」

ティモシー・マクベイ はアメリカの最も悪名高い犯罪人です。
彼は1995年に発生したオクラホマシティ連邦政府ビル爆破事件の主犯である。
168人が死亡しました。その中の19人は保育園の子供達でした。684人が重傷を負いました。
彼を捕まえた警官はペリーと言う小さな町の警官だったので、彼は町の英雄となりました。

あなたの英雄は誰ですか？　あなたの家の壁には誰の写真が貼られていますか？　有名な俳優や女優ですか？　人気者の歌手ですか？　スポーツの選手ですか？　
この世はこんな人達を英雄にしますが、クリスチャンの英雄になる相応わしい人は誰ですか？　
もちろん、キリストは全てのクリスチャンの英雄です。
（Ⅰペテロの手紙2:21）

私は皆さんにこんな人々を英雄にする事をお勧めします。
まず、忠実に聖書を教える牧師です。
「神のみことばをあなたがたに話した指導者たちのことを、思い出しなさい。彼らの生活の結末をよく見て、その信仰にならいなさい。」ヘブル人への手紙13:7

次に、キリストの御名のために命を投げ出した宣教師。
（使徒の働き15:26）

そして、模範的な信仰生活をする兄弟や姉妹。

THE HERO OF THE TOWN　

On my way to Texas, I stopped at a hotel in the small town of Perry, Oklahoma. The girl at the front desk recommended a restaurant in the center of town, so I went there. It was an historical restaurant that began in 1926. While I was waiting for my meal, I looked at the many pictures that were on the wall. One was a picture of a policeman. Underneath the picture these words were written:
The town hero who captured Timothy McVeigh.

Timothy McVeigh is one of the most infamous criminals of America. In 1995 he exploded a bomb in front of a government building. 168 people died. Among them were 19 children in a day care. 684 people were wounded. The policeman who captured him was from the small town of Perry, so he became the hero of the town.

Who is your hero? Whose picture is on the wall of your home? A famous movie actor or actress? A popular singer? An athlete? The world makes these kinds of people heroes, but who is worthy to be the hero of the Christian? Of course, Christ is the hero of every Christian.
(First Peter 2:21)

I recommend you make these kinds of people your hero. First, the pastor who teaches you the Bible faithfully.
Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow. (Hebrews 13:7)

Next, missionaries who have hazarded their live for Christ. (Acts 15:26)

Also, Christians who live an exemplary faith-life.
(First Thessalonians 1:6)
