突然の点灯

メリーランド州に住んでいる日本人の姉妹に会いに行く途中で、突然車のメーターパネルに今まで私が見た事のない警告ランプが点灯しました。
私は「ホテルに着いてから、説明書を見て、その警告ランプの意味を調べよう」と思っていたが、ホテルに着いて一息つき、その後警告ランプの事はすっかり忘れてしまいました。

翌日、私はその姉妹が出席している教会に行くために、姉妹を迎えに行きました。
車に乗った瞬間、彼女は言いました。
「先生、タイヤの空気圧が低すぎますよ！」
そして聞きました
「どうしてその事が分かりますか？」
彼女は昨日の突然の警告ランプ点灯アイコンを指して
「その点灯アイコンの意味はタイヤの空気圧が低すぎると言う意味ですよ」と教えてくれました。

姉妹と一緒に教会に行った帰りに、タイヤ店に行って空気を入れてもらいました。
すると店員に言われました。
「4本ともタイヤの空気圧がすごく低下していました。もし空気を入れなかったら、突然のタイヤのパンクで大事故にあったかも知れませんよ！」

私達の信仰生活にも突然点灯する警告があります。
私達の行動や態度に主に喜ばれないところがあれば、主はいろんな方法で私達に警告します。
例えば、牧師の説教や同じ教会の方の忠告や御言葉を通して、主は私達に警告を与えてくださいます。
もし私たちが、その警告を無視すれば、大変な結果になるかも知れません。

イスラエルの民は神様の多くの警告を無視しました。
Ⅱ歴代誌36:16にその結果が書いてあります。
「彼らは神の使者たちを笑いものにし、そのみことばを侮り、その預言者たちをばかにしたので、ついに、主の激しい憤りが、その民に対して積み重ねられ、もはや、いやされることがないまでになった。」
「貧しくても知恵のある若者は、もう忠言を受けつけない年とった愚かな王にまさる。」伝道者の書4:13

　　　 

THE SUDDEN LIGHT　

I was on my way to visit Sister Jinnouchi who lives in Maryland. Suddenly a light that I had never seen before appeared on the dashboard. I thought, “When I arrive at the hotel, I will look at the manual and check the meaning of that light,” but when I arrived at the hotel, I forgot about the light.

The next day, I went to pick up Sister Jinnouchi to go with her to the church she attends. As soon as she got into the car, she said, “Pastor, the tire pressure is too low.” I asked her, “How do you know that?” She pointed to the light that had appeared suddenly the day before and said, “That light means that the tire pressure is too low.”

After I went with her to the church, I went to a tire shop and had air put into the tires. The person at the shop said, “If you had not had air put into the tires, you might have had a terrible accident caused by a sudden blowout.”

Sometimes, in our Christian lives, there are warnings that appear suddenly. If there is something in our actions or attitude that does not please the Lord, He will send us warnings. For example, He may warn us through the sermon of the pastor or the advice of someone who attends the same church or through the Bible.

If we ignore the warning, the result may be terrible. The people of Israel ignored the many warnings of the Lord. The result is written in Second Chronicles 36:16. But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished. (Ecclesiastes 4:13)
