最近、自分の命について考える３つの出来事がありました。

まず5月30日、私の友達である牧師が、突然“心筋梗塞”で手術を受けなければなりませんでした。

もう一つの出来事は、甘木教会の姉妹が天に召されたことです。私は、姉妹がしばらく入院していると甘木教会の牧師から聞いたので、5月31日にお見舞いに行く予定でしたが姉妹は29日に天に召されました。31日に、私は姉妹の召天式に出席する結果となりました。

そして、6月3日に愛する小倉教会の兄弟も突然“心筋梗塞”の手術を受けなければなりませんでした。午前中、彼は元気そうでした。だから私はすごくビックリしました。

先週の日曜日から、
この２つの聖書の箇所が私の心に響いています。
まず、ヤコブの手紙4:14です。
「あなたがたには、あすのことはわからないのです。あなたがたのいのちは、いったいどのようなものですか。あなたがたは、しばらくの間現れて、それから消えてしまう霧にすぎません。」

もう一つの箇所はペテロの第一の手紙1:24です。
「人はみな草のようで、その栄えは、みな草の花のようだ。草はしおれ、花は散る。」
　
英語にこのような詩があります。
Only one life, will soon be past
Only what's done for Christ will last
（一つだけの命、すぐ終わってしまいます。
残ることは、私たちがキリストのためにしたことだけです。）

「主よ。お知らせください。私の終わり、私の齢が、どれだけなのか。私が、どんなに、はかないかを知ることができるように。」詩篇39:4

　　　 

FOG AND GRASS　

Lately there have been three events that made me think about my life. First, a pastor friend had to have emergency heart-related surgery.

Another event was the homegoing of Mrs. Inamoto at the Amagi church. I had heard from Pastor Yoshizawa that she was in the hospital, so I planned to visit her on Thursday the 31st, but she went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday. On Thursday I went to her funeral.

Last Sunday Brother Yamaguchi had to have emergency heart-related surgery. He seemed fine Sunday morning, so I was really surprised.

Since Sunday two Bible passages have been echoing in my heart. One is James 4:14.
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

The other passage is First Peter 1:24.
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away.

In English we have this poem:
Only one life, will soon be past
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Lord, make me to know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. (Psalm 39:4)
