降ればどしゃ降り

「降ればどしゃ降り」と言う諺があります。
英語にそれと似ている諺があります。
“Bad luck always comes in threes.”「悪い出来事が三つ重なるものだ」と言う意味です。
先週の金曜日、私はこの諺が真実であると分かりました。

まず、家のトイレが壊れました。水を流すと止まりません。
トイレの修理が出来るまで、私は水を止めなければなりませんでした。

次に、車で買物に行こうとした時、車は動きません。バッテリーが上がっていたのです。
それを充電してもらわなければなりませんでした。

そして、午後の3時頃エアコンが冷えなくなりました。その日、外の気温は35℃だったので、エアコンが再び冷えるまで、私は扇風機だけで堪え忍ばなければなりませんでした。

この三つの悪い出来事が同じ日に重なった時、私は少しヨブの気持がよく分かりました。
しかし、ヨブが経験した不運はもっと大変でした。

まず、ヨブの牛とロバは彼の敵に奪われました。

次に、火が天から下り、彼の羊を全て焼き尽くしました。

最後に、大風はヨブの10人の子供達が集まっていた家をなぎ倒し、子供達は全員死亡しました。

同じ日に悪い出来事が三つも重なった時、私は神様に不平を言いたい気持ちでした。
しかし、同じ日に全ての財産と子供達を失ったヨブは神様に愚痴をこぼしませんでした。
逆に、彼は言いました。
「私は裸で母の胎から出て来た。また、裸で私はかしこに帰ろう。主は与え、主は取られる。主の御名はほむべきかな。」ヨブ記1:21

私達も、悪い出来事が重なる時、同じ事が言えるクリスチャンになりましょう。

　　　 

WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS　

There is a Japanese proverb (Fureba doshaburi da) which means, “When it rains, it pours.” There is a similar expression in English. “Bad luck always comes in threes.” On Friday of last week, I discovered that this proverb is true.

First, my toilet broke. When I flushed it, the water would not stop running. I had to cut off the water until I could have the toilet repaired.

Next, I was going to go shopping by car, but the car would not move. The battery was dead, so I had to have it recharged.

Then, about 3:00 in the afternoon my air conditioner stopped cooling. The temperature was about 95 that day, but I had to get by with just a fan until the air conditioner started cooling again.

When the bad things started piling up, I felt a little bit like Job; however, his experience was much worse.

First, all his oxen and asses were taken by his enemies.

Next, fire fell from heaven and burned up all his sheep.

Then, a great wind collapsed the house where his ten children were gathered, and they all died.

When the bad things piled up on the same day, I felt like complaining to the Lord. However, when Job lost all his possessions and his children on the same day, he did not complain to the Lord. Instead, he said,
Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither; The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord. (Job 1:21)

Let’s become Christians who can say the same thing, when misfortunes began to pile up.
