明るい街と暗い心

50年前、私たち家族が日本に来た時、当時の日本はクリスマスを知らない国だと言っても、過言ではありませんでした。家を飾り付けする人は、ほとんど誰もいませんでした。
町の中心でクリスマスの飾り付けする街や店も滅多にありませんでした。クリスマスの日に私達は家族5人だけでクリスマスを祝いました。

しかし、現在は全然違います。家を飾り付けする人々は、すごく多くなりました。
私の近所の人は早目に11月に自分の家を飾り付けました。
買物に行く時、私は多くの店の綺麗な飾り付けを見ます。
そして、全ての町の中心はクリスマスの飾りで輝いています。
私達を驚かせるほどの鮮やかなイルミネーションもあります。
この50年の間に日本のクリスマスは驚くほど変わりましたが、日本の多くの人々の暗い心は全く変わっていません。聖書に多くの日本人の心の暗さを説明する言葉があります。

「彼らは、神を知っていながら、その神を神としてあがめず、感謝もせず、かえってその思いはむなしくなり、その無知な心は暗くなったからです。 彼らは、自分では知者であると言いながら、愚かな者となり、 不滅の神の御栄えを、滅ぶべき人間や、鳥、獣、はうもののかたちに似た物と代えてしまいました。」
ローマ人への手紙1:21～23

多くの日本人の心は暗くて、教会のクリスマス伝道の目的は彼等の目を開いて、暗闇から光に、そしてサタンの支配から神に立ち返らせるためです。
（使徒の働き26:18）

12月の間に教会の伝道を通して、そして個人伝道を通して、出来るだけ多くの人々にキリストの言葉を宣べ伝えましょう。
「わたしは、世の光です。わたしに従う者は、決してやみの中を歩むことがなく、いのちの光を持つのです。」

BRIGHT TOWNS AND DARK HEARTS

When my family came to Japan 50 years ago, if you said that the Japan of those days was a country that did not know Christmas, it would not be an exaggeration. Almost no one decorated their homes. Very few towns decorated the downtown area and stores that decorated for Christmas were rare. On Christmas day, the five of us celebrated Christmas inside our home by ourselves.

However, now it is completely different. More and more people decorate their homes. Some people near my home decorated their house early in November. When I go shopping, I can see the pretty decorations of the stores. Also, the downtown areas of many towns are shining with Christmas decorations, and there are brilliant illuminations that amaze us.

During these 50 years, Christmas in Japan has changed considerably; however, the dark hearts of many Japanese have not changed at all. In the Bible there are words that explain the darkness of the hearts of many Japanese.
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
(Romans 1:21-23)

Because the hearts of many Japanese are dark hearts, the purpose of all the Christmas evangelism of the church is to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God. (Acts 26:18)

During December, through the evangelism of the church, and through personal evangelism, let’s declare the words of Christ to as many people as possible.
I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)
