毎月、私は薬をもらうために内科の病院に行かなければなりません。近所に病院がありますが、八幡の病院まで行きます。
なぜなら数十年その病院に通っているので主治医と友達になっているからです。
私達は、よくお互いに冗談を言ったり、孫の話などをします。北九州教会の開拓伝道を始めた頃、彼の子供達が日曜学校に来たこともありました。

しかしその病院で困っている事が一つあります。
内科が２階にあり、そこ行くには急な階段を上らなければなりません。全部で20段あります。
上段まで到達すると「ハア～・ハア～」と息を切りながら診察室に入ります。

クリスチャンの歩みは階段を上る事に似ています。
箴言15:24に
「悟りのある者はいのちの道を上っていく。」
と書いてあります。

去年の今頃と比べて、あなたの信仰の階段は少しでも上る事ができましたか。
すなわち、あなたの霊的なレベルは高くなりましたか。
あるいは、まだ同じ段に立っていますか。
もしかしたら１段下がりましたか。

信仰生活の階段を上るために私たちはⅡペテロの手紙3:18に書いてある命令に従って、イエスキリストの愛と知識において成長すべきです。
霊的に成長して、信仰の階段をもっと高い所まで上りたいクリスチャンは日々私達を成長させる御言葉を読む必要があります。
（Ⅰペテロの手紙2:2）

THE STAIRCASE OF FAITH　

Every month I have to go to an internal medicine hospital to get medicine. Although there is a hospital close to my home, I go all the way to a hospital in Yahata because I have been going to that hospital for many years and the doctor and I have become friends. When I began the Kitakyushu church, his children came to Sunday School.

There is one thing about that hospital that bothers me. It is on the second floor. In order to go to that hospital, I have to climb a steep staircase. Altogether, there are about 20 steps. When I finally get to the top, I enter the hospital gasping for air.

The walk of the Christian is similar to climbing a staircase.
In Proverbs 15:24 it is written,
The way of life is above to the wise.
Compared to this time last year, have you climbed up the staircase of faith even a little bit? In other words, has your spiritual level become higher? Maybe you are still standing on the same step or perhaps you have slid downward a little bit.

In order to climb higher on the staircase of faith, we should obey the command in Second Peter 3:18 and grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. The Christian who wants to grow spiritually and climb higher on the staircase of faith needs to ready daily the Word of God that causes us to grow. (First Peter 2:2)

先週、教会の兄姉たちと一緒に湯布院温泉に一泊旅行に行きました。その時、恐ろしい経験をしました。
夜中に私は暑くなって飛び起きました。
すごく暑かったので、一瞬思いました。
「私が寝ている間に死んで、地獄で起きた！」
しかし、次の瞬間、思い出しました。
「私はクリスチャンだから、地獄に行く事はありません」
（後で私は分かりましたが、夜中に一人の兄弟が寒くなり暖房をつけたので部屋がすごく暑くなりました）

聖書によると、全ての人は死んでから、天国か地獄に行きます。
しかし、イエス・キリストを信じる人は地獄に行く事を恐れる必要がありません。
なぜなら、ヨハネの福音書5:24でキリストは約束されました。「まことに、まことに、あなたがたに告げます。わたしのことばを聞いて、わたしを遣わした方を信じる者は、永遠のいのちを持ち、さばきに会うことがなく、死からいのちに移っているのです。」

一方では、キリストを拒む人々は死んでから、地獄で起きます。
ルカの福音書16章でキリストは地獄で起きた人の話をされました。その人は苦しみながら叫びました。
「私は、この炎の中で苦しくてたまりません」
ルカ16:19-24

人々の最後の行先は天国か地獄です。
しかし、Ⅱペテロの手紙3:9によると、神様は一人でも滅びる（地獄に行く）事を望んでおられません。それで、全ての者を愛しておられ天国に来る事を望んでおられる神様は私たちを地獄から救って下さる救い主をお与えになりました。

「神は、実に、そのひとり子をお与えになったほどに、世を愛された。それは御子を信じる者が、ひとりとして滅びることなく、永遠のいのちを持つためである。」
ヨハネの福音書 3:16

そのひとり子、イエス・キリストを信じる人は決して地獄で起きません。

　　　 

I WOKE UP IN HELL ! 

Last week when I went to Yufuin with some of the people from the church, I had a terrible experience. In the middle of the night I became extremely hot and woke up. The room was so hot, for a moment I thought, “Did I die while I was sleeping and wake up in Hell?” However, in the next moment, I remembered, “I am a Christian so it is not possible that I would go to Hell.” (Later I learned that during the night one of the men got cold and turned on the heater, so the room became extremely hot.)

According to the Bible, after they die, all people will go either to Heaven or to Hell. However, the person who believes in Christ does not need to fear going to Hell, for in John 5:24 Christ promised,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

On the other hand, the person who rejects Christ will wake up in Hell. In chapter 16 of Luke, Christ told the story of a man who woke up in Hell. In great pain, he cried out,
“I am tormented in these flames.” (16:19-24)

The final destination of all people is either Heaven or Hell.　However, according to Second Peter 3:9, God does not desire that even one person go to Hell.　So God, who loves all people and wants everyone to come to heaven, gave us a Savior to save us from Hell.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
(John 3:16)
The person who believes in that Son, Jesus Christ, will never wake up in Hell.

トイレットペーパーを買う時、私はいつも2枚重（2-ply）か4枚重の(4-ply)を買います。

しかし先日、私は間違って1枚重ね（シングル）のトイレットペーパーを買ってしまいました。
シングルのトイレットペーパーは良くありません。
薄いので、すぐ破れてしまいます。シングルのトイレットペーパーは役にたたないものです。

同じように、シングルの信仰生活は良くありません。
つまり、全てのクリスチャンに他のクリスチャンとの交わりが必要です。
その交わりの内容は神様についての話や遊びや食事や世間話であっても他のクリスチャンと共に過ごす時間が大切です。
初代の信者達は交わりを大切にしました。

「彼らは毎日、心を一つにして宮に集り、家でパンを裂き、喜びと真心を持って食事を朝にしました」
使徒の働き2:46

交わりは、お互いに励まし合う機会なので、とても大切です。
「ある人々のように、いっしょに集まることをやめたりしないで、かえって励まし合い、かの日が近づいているのを見て、ますますそうしようではありませんか。」
へブル人への手紙10:25

また、信仰の試練に遭う時、交わりは他のクリスチャンと相談する機会、また他のクリスチャンと共に祈る機会になるから、とても大切です。
「ふたりはひとりよりもまさっている。ふたりが労苦すれば、良い報いがあるからだ。 どちらかが倒れるとき、ひとりがその仲間を起こす。」
伝道者の書4:9-10

すぐ破れるシングルのトイレットペーパーと同じように、シングルの信仰生活をするクリスチャンの信仰はすぐ破れてしまいます。

一方では、
「兄弟たちが一つになって共に住むことは、なんというしあわせ、なんという楽しさであろう。」

THE SINGLE FAITH-LIFE　

When I buy toilet paper, I always buy 2-ply or 4-ply. The other day I mistakenly bought single toilet paper. Single toilet paper is no good. It is so thin that it tears easily. Single toilet paper is useless.

In the same way, a single faith-life is not good. In other words, all Christians need fellowship with other Christians. The content of that fellowship may be talking about God, playing games, meals, or small talk, but the time we spend with other Christians is important.

The early believers made fellowship important.
They continued daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart. (Acts 2:46)

Fellowship is an opportunity to encourage one another, so it is important.
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the days approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)

Also, when we meet a trial, fellowship with other Christians will give us the opportunity to discuss the matter with them and pray with them, so it is very important.
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour: For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)

Just as single toilet paper tears easily, the faith of a Christian who lives a single faith-life will soon be torn apart. On the other hand,
How good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. (Psalm 1331)

私が八幡から帰って来た時、ポストに（書留等ご不在連絡票）が入っていました。
その郵便は私がずっと待っていた大事な書類なのです。
私はすぐ（再配達受付連絡先）に電話して、夜の7時～9時の間の再配達を頼みました。その晩、私は7時～9時まで待ちましたが書類は届きませんでした。

9時過ぎに玄関を出てポストの中を見ました。
また（書留等ご不在連絡票）が入っていました。その（連絡票）によると「19時22分に再配達に伺いました」
それを見た瞬間、私は怒りました。
「私は7時～9時までずっと書類を待っていたのに、なぜ配達人は玄関のチャイムを鳴らさなかったのか！」と文句を言いながら、私は思い出しました。
書類の配達を待っている間に、私は眠ってしまいました。ちょうど私が5～10分だけ寝ている間に再配達されていたのです。

その時、私はマタイの福音書24:42に書かれている主の言葉を思い出しました。
「目をさましていなさい。あなたがたは、自分の主がいつ来られるか、知らないからです。」

聖書の多くの箇所でキリストの再臨を教えています。
例えば、ヨハネの福音書14:3でキリストは言われました。
「わたしが行って、あなたがたに場所を備えたら、また来て、あなたがたをわたしのもとに迎えます。」
キリストの再臨はいつでしょうか。 マタイの福音書24:36によると、神様だけがその時を知っておられます。

しかし、私達がキリストの再臨についての預言を現在の世界の状態と比べる時、主の再臨が近いと分かります。目を覚まして、できるだけ多くの人々に福音を宣べ伝える事に励みましょう。
この御言葉を教会の今年のスローガンにしましょう。
「目をさまして、慎み深くしていましょう。」
Ⅰテサロニケ人への手紙5:6 b

　　　 

WHILE I WAS SLEEPING　

When I returned from Yahata, there was an [undeliverable item notice] in my mailbox. That mail was some important documents for which I had been waiting for quite some time, so I immediately called and requested another delivery between 7:00 and 9:00 that night.

In the evening I waited between 7:00 and 9:00, but the documents did not come.
I went outside and looked in the mailbox. There was another [undeliverable item notice]. According to that notice, there had been another attempt to deliver the documents at 7:22.

When I saw that, I became angry. [I was waiting for the documents all the way from 7:00 to 9:00. Why didn’t the deliveryman ring the doorbell ?] As I was complaining, I remembered. While I was waiting for the documents, I fell asleep. It was only 5-10 minutes, but right at that time, while I was sleeping, the deliveryman came.

Just then, I remembered the words of Christ written in Matthew 24:42.
Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Many Bible passages teach the second coming of Christ. For example, in John 14:3 Christ said,
If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself.

When will Christ come again? According to Matthew 24:36, only God knows that time. However, when we compare the prophecies about the second coming of Christ with the present condition of the world, we understand that His second coming is near, so let’s be vigilant, and let’s be diligent in preaching the gospel to as many people as possible.

Let’s make this Bible passage our slogan for this year:
Let us watch and be sober.
(First Thessalonians 5:6)
