先週の月曜日に私と一緒にワイエット先生家族が国民健康保険に加入するために小倉南区役所に手続きに行きました。
まず、私たちは国民健康保険の窓口に行って、番号札をもらいました。その日に区役所に来た人達が多かったので、私達はずっと待ちました。ようやく私たちの番号札が呼ばれました。
そこで係員に「その手続きは別の窓口に行って登録しなければなりませんよ」と言われました。

私たちは登録の窓口に行って、また番号札を取り、ずっと待ち続けました。
ようやく私達の番号札が呼ばれた時、区役所の係員は「登録の手続きは、かなり時間がかかりますよ」と教えてくれました。
私たちは、その窓口で1時間25分も待たされました。

そこから私たちは、再び国民健康保険の窓口に戻って、また待ちました。
午後1時に区役所に来て、ようやく4時に終える事ができました。

永い、長い3時間でした。
区役所を出て帰りながら、私はワイエット先生に話しました。
「天国に入る事は、日本の国民健康保険に入る事より簡単です」

本当にそうです。 たった３つのステップです。
①神様に自分の罪を認める。
②イエス・キリストが十字架の上で自分の罪のために死んでくださったと信じる。
③祈りを通して神様に赦しを願う。

ルカの福音書18:13で
「神さま。こんな罪人の私をあわれんでください」
と言う簡単な祈りをした人の事が書いてあります。
また14節には
「この人が、義と認められて家に帰りました」
と書いてあります。
簡単な事です。どうぞ決心してください。

　　　 

THREE HOURS
　AT THE WARD OFFICE 

On Monday of last week Mike Wyatt and I went to the South Kokura Ward Office to register his family in the Japan health insurance system. First, we went to the health insurance window and received a number. There were many people at the Ward Office that day, so we waited a long time. Finally, our number was called. However, we were told that first we had to go to a different window and register.

We went to the registration window, took a number, and waited for a long time. When our number was finally called, the Ward Office official told us that the registration process would take quite a long time. We waited at that window for one hour and 25 minutes.

Then we returned to the health insurance window and waited a long time. We went to the Ward Office at one o’clock and left there at four o’clock. It was a long, long three hours. As we were leaving the Ward Office, I said to Mike,
“It is easier to get into heaven than it is to get into the Japan health insurance system.”

It really is true. There are three steps.
First, admit your sins to God.
Second, believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins.
Third, pray and ask God to forgive your sins.

In Luke 18:13
there is a simple prayer that a man prayed.
God, be merciful to me a sinner.
In verse 14 it is written,
This man went down to his house justified.
It is simple. Give it a try.

先週、私はワイエット先生と一緒に北九州自動車運転免許試験場に行きました。彼の運転免許証の更新のためでした。
３年間、彼は交通違反が一度もなかったので、喜ばしい事が２つありました。

まず、彼が受けなければならない講習は30分ですみました。 違反がある運転手の講習は２時間です。そして違反がなかったので彼はこれから５年間有効であるゴールド免許（金色）を取得しました。

やはり交通規則を守る事は良い結果をもたらします。
同様に神様の戒めを守る事はクリスチャンにとって多くの祝福をもたらします。

例えば、神様の戒めを守る人は自分の祈りに神様は応えてくださいます。
「また求めるものは何でも神からいただくことができます。なぜなら、私たちが神の命令を守り、神に喜ばれることを行なっているからです。」Ⅰヨハネの手紙3:22

また、神様の戒めを守る人は神様に愛されるクリスチャンです。
「わたしの戒めを保ち、それを守る人は、わたしを愛する人です。わたしを愛する人はわたしの父に愛され、わたしもその人を愛し、わたし自身を彼に現わします。」
ヨハネの福音書14:21

そして、神様の戒めを守るクリスチャンは自分のする事で栄える事ができます。
「この律法の書を、あなたの口から離さず、昼も夜もそれを口ずさまなければならない。そのうちにしるされているすべてのことを守り行なうためである。そうすれば、あなたのすることで繁栄し、また栄えることができるからである。」ヨシュア記1:8

皆さんがゴールド免許（金色）をもらうために交通規則を守るように、神様が与えてくださる多くの祝福をいただくために主の戒めを守りましょう。

　　　 

THE BLESSINGS OF OBEDIENCE 

Last week I went to the Driver’s License Bureau with Mike Wyatt. We went there to renew his driver’s license. Mike did not have any violations during the past three years, so there were two good results.

First, the class he had to attend was only a 30-minute class. People with violations have to attend a two-hour class.

Second, because he had no violations, he received a gold driver’s license that is good for five years.

Observing the traffic rules brings good results. Likewise, keeping the commandments of God brings many blessings to the Christian.

For example, the Christian who obeys the commandments of the Lord is able to have God answer his prayers.
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
(First John 3:22)

Also, the Christian who obeys the commandments of God will be loved by God.
He that hath my commandments. And keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
(John 14:21)

Also, the Christian who obeys the commandments of God can prosper in all that he does.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
(Joshua 1:8)

Just as you are observing the traffic rules in order to receive a gold license, let’s obey the commandments of the Lord to receive the many blessings that the Lord gives.

殺人・酩酊・偽り・戦争・浮気・同性愛・近親相姦・争い・盗み・詐欺・ごまかし・一夫多妻・強姦・復讐・裏切り。
これらは映画やテレビのドラマのストーリーでしょうか。
確かにこれらは最近の多くの映画やテレビの番組の内容に似ています。
実は、創世記40章までの中で人間が犯した罪のリストです。

＊カインは弟を殺しました。
＊ノアはワインを飲んで酔ってしまいました。
＊アブラハムは偽りを言いました。
＊ソドムには同性愛者がいました。
＊ヤコブは、お兄さんの祝福を盗みました。
＊ヤコブはお父さんを騙しました。
＊ヤコブは二人の女性と結婚しました。
＊ディナは強姦されました。
＊ヨセフは兄弟達に裏切られました。

皆さん、創世記40章までを読んだ時、その内容に驚きませんか？　もし、そうであれば二つの事を覚えてください。
まず、創世記に記録されている人間の罪はローマ人への手紙1:21-32に説明されている人類の堕落を証明しています。
例えば、ローマ1:29に書いてある罪のリストを創世記の中で犯した罪のリストと比べてください。ほとんど同じです。

それから、創世記の内容は聖書が神様の御言葉であると証明します。もし、人間が聖書のような本を書こうとしたら、あのような人類の悪事を明白に書かないでしょう。
「人間が聖書を書こうとしても、書く事が出来ないし、もし書く事ができても、書かないでしょう」と言われています。

聖書の内容に驚きながら、安心して読み続けましょう。
そして、読みながらⅠコリント人への手紙10:11-12の言葉を覚えましょう。
「これらのことが彼らに起こったのは、戒めのためであり、それが書かれたのは、世の終わりに臨んでいる私たちへの教訓とするためです。 ですから、立っていると思う者は、倒れないように気をつけなさい。」

　　　 

A MOVIE?　A TV DRAMA?　

Murder. Drunkenness. Lying. War. Infidelity. Homosexuality. Incest. Conflict. Theft. Fraud. Deception. Polygamy. Rape. Revenge. Betrayal. Is this the plot of a movie or TV drama? Certainly, this resembles the content of many movies and TV programs of these days, but, actually, this is a list of the sins committed by people in the first 40 chapters of Genesis.

＊Cain murdered his brother.
＊Noah drank wine and was intoxicated.
＊Abraham lied.
＊The people of Sodom were homosexuals.
＊Jacob stole the blessing of his brother.
＊Jacob deceived his father.
＊Jacob married two women.
＊Dinah was raped.
＊Joseph was betrayed by his brothers.

When you read the first 40 chapters of Genesis, were you surprised? If so, remember two things. First, the sins of the people recorded in Genesis prove the depravity of mankind explained in Romans 1:21-32. For example, compare the list of sins written in Romans 1:29 with the list of sins committed in Genesis. They are almost identical.

Second, the content of Genesis proves that the Bible is the Word of God. If man tried to write a book like the Bible, he would not write so clearly about the evil deeds of mankind. It has been said, “Man would not write the Bible even if he tried, and even if he tried, he could not.”

Let’s read the Bible with assurance even as we are amazed at the content, and as we read it, let’s remember the words in First Corinthians 10:11-12:
Now all these things happened unto them for our ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

「ヤコブはベエル・シェバを立って、カランへと旅立った。 ある所に着いたとき、ちょうど日が沈んだので、そこで一夜を明かすことにした。彼はその所の石の一つを取り、それを枕にして、その場所で横になった。」
創世記28:10-11

この箇所を読む度に、私は50年前の出来事を思い出します。
1969年の夏、初めて日本の夏キャンプに参加しました。自分の寝床に行った時、驚きました。 とても小さな枕でした。そして枕はレンガの形に似ていました。 寝てみて、その枕はレンガのように硬い枕だと分かりました。（私はいつもフワフワしている二つの枕で眠るので、それ以来キャンプに行く時には必ず枕を持参します。)

ヤコブの枕は日本の枕よりもっと硬い枕でした。彼の枕は石でした。今までヤコブはお父さんの家で心地良い枕で寝ていました。 なぜ、ヤコブは硬い石を枕にして外で寝たのでしょうか。
ヤコブが犯した罪の結果です。彼は、お父さんとお兄さんを騙しました。
騙されたお兄さんはヤコブを殺すつもりでした。だからヤコブは逃げなければなりませんでした。 ヤコブが枕にした石はお父さんの家に住む祝福を失ったヤコブの罪の結果を表す石です。

今あなたも石の枕の上に寝ていますか？　すなわち、あなたも罪を犯して神様からの祝福を失いましたか。　もしそうであれば、神様の祝福を取り戻す条件を思い出して下さい。

「手がきよく、心がきよらかな者、そのたましいをむなしいことに向けず、欺き誓わなかった人。 その人は主から祝福を受ける。」詩篇24:4-5

　　　 

THE STONE PILLOW　

And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. (Genesis 28:10-11)

Every time I read this passage, I remember an event from 50 years ago. In the summer of 1969, I went to Summer Camp in Japan for the first time. When I went to the place where I would sleep, I was surprised. The pillow was a very small pillow. The shape of the pillow was like the shape of a brick. Later, when I went to bed, I discovered that the pillow was as hard as a brick. (I always sleep on two fluffy pillows, so from that time on, whenever I go to Camp, I take my own pillow.)

The pillow of Jacob was harder than the pillows of Japan. His pillow was a stone. Until now Jacob had slept on comfortable pillows at the home of his father. Why is Jacob sleeping outside on a stone pillow?

It was the result of the sin of Jacob. He deceived his father and his brother. The brother intended to kill Jacob, so he had to flee. The stone pillow upon which Jacob slept was a symbol of the blessings of living in the home of his father that Jacob had lost as a result of his sin.

At the present time, are you sleeping on a stone pillow? In other words, have you committed a sin and lost the blessings of God? If so, remember the conditions for regaining the blessings of God.

He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD. (Psalm 24:4-5)
