教会の姉妹がサムエルと言う犬を飼っています。
いつもは彼女が家の２階に上がった時、サムエルは一緒に上がりました。
しかし、ある日サムエルは階段を少しだけ上っただけで、途中で止まり下りてしまいました。
姉妹が「サムエルおいで」と呼んでも、やはりサムエルは階段を少しだけ上って、途中で止まり、下に戻ってしまいました。

なぜ、サムエルは２階まで上って来なくなったかと不思議に思った姉妹はサムエルの足の爪を調べました。
すると爪が長くなっていて、階段に上ろうとした時、犬はすべる危険を感じたので、途中で止まって安全な場所に戻りました。
私たちは、サムエルほどに知恵があるでしょうか？
つまり、自分がすべりやすい道を歩いているとわかると、私達に足を止めて安全な場所に戻る知恵があるでしょうか。

詩篇73を書いたアサフはこの危ない状況をこの言葉で表しました。「私の歩みは、すべるばかりでした。」2節　
私たちが主の道から離れて、すべりやすい道を歩んでいるとわかる時、どうしたら良いでしょうか。サムエルと同じように、すぐに安全な場所、すなわち、主の道から離れた元の場所に戻って、再び主が導いて下さる道を歩みましょう。

ダビデの模範に従いましょう。
「私はあらゆる悪の道から私の足を引き止めました。あなたのことばを守るためです。」詩篇119:101

箴言14:12に「人の目にはまっすぐに見える道がある。その道の終りは死の道である。」と書いてあります。すべりやすい道の危険を感じる事ができる信仰の知恵を求めましょう。

　　　 

THE WISE DOG 

One of the ladies of the church is raising a dog named Samuel. Until recently, whenever she went upstairs in her home, Samuel went with her. However, one day he went up the stairs just a little way, stopped, and then quickly returned to the bottom of the stairs. Even if she called, “Samuel, come here,” he would go just a little way up the stairs, stop, and then return to the bottom of the stairs.

She wondered why Samuel had stopped coming upstairs, so she checked his claws and discovered that they had gotten longer, so when he tried to climb the stairs, he sensed that he was in danger of slipping, so he stopped and returned to a safe place.

I wonder if we have as much wisdom as Samuel. In other words, when we realize we are walking on a dangerous road, do we have enough wisdom to stop and return to a safe place?

In Psalm 23 Asafu expressed this dangerous condition in these words: But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; my steps had nearly slipped. (verse 2)
When we realize that we have departed from the way of the Lord and are walking on a slippery road, what should we do? Like Samuel, let us return to a safe place, the place where we departed from the way of the Lord and once more walk in the way that the Lord leads us.

Let us follow the example of David.
I have restrained my feet from every evil way, that I may keep your word. (Psalm 119:101)

In Proverbs 14:12 it is written, There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death, so let us seek the wisdom of faith that can sense the danger of a slippery way.
