先週の日曜日、私は佐世保のライトハウス・バプテスト教会で説教しました。AM10:00からの日曜学校に間に合うようにAM7:30に出発しました。
九州自動車道と長崎自動車道を通れば2時間15分程で行けるはずだったのですが……。

しかし、その日は朝から大雨による災害があったので、筑紫野インターから高速道路は通行止めでした。そこから佐賀の途中まで一般道を通らなければなりませんでした。
そして教会に到着したのは10:30頃でした。だから日曜学校には間に合いませんでした。

私は、朝の集会が終わってすぐに、食事をせずに小倉に向かって帰ろうとしました。
ところが驚いた事に武雄ジャンクションから長崎自動車道も災害のために通行止めでした。
そこから九州自動車道の筑紫野まで、また一般道を通らなければなりませんでした。
2時間15分かかるはずの旅はその2倍の4時間半かかりました。

旅の計画を妨げる災害は嫌です。しかし、人生の計画を妨げる災害はもっと嫌です。
何かの思いがけない出来事のゆえに私達の人生が遠回りになる時、次の三つの事をおぼえましょう。

①もし、私達の遠回りの原因が神様の御心に対する不従順であるならば、なるべく早く主の道から離れた所に戻って、再び主の御心の道を歩みましょう。

②人生の遠回りが神様の御心による事であるならば、神様のご計画に信頼しましょう。ヨブの人生が多くの災害のゆえに遠回りになった時、彼は言いました。
「神が私を殺しても、私は神を信頼しましょう。」
ヨブ記13:15

③人生が遠回りになった時も、主は私達と共におられます。
「強くあれ。雄々しくあれ。恐れてはならない。おののいてはならない。あなたの神、主が、あなたの行く所どこにでも、あなたとともにあるからである。」

THE DETOURS OF LIFE　

Last Sunday I preached at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Sasebo. In order to be on time for Sunday School at 10:00, I left at 7:30. If I take the Kyushu Expressway and the Nagasaki Expressway, I can drive there in about two hours and fifteen minutes.

However, there had been heavy rains that morning, so the Kyushu Expressway was closed from Chikushino. From there until part of the way to Saga I had to take the regular roads, so I arrived at the church at 10:30. I did not make it in time for Sunday School.

After the morning service, I left without eating lunch and headed for Kokura. To my surprise, from Takeo Junction, the Nagasaki Expressway was closed too, so from there to the Chikushino entrance on the Kyushu Expressway I had to take the regular roads. A trip that should have taken two hours and fifteen minutes took twice as long, four and one-half hours.

Weather-related disasters that interfere with travel plans are bad. However, events that interfere with the plans for our life are even worse. When, for some unforeseen event, our life has to take a detour, let us remember three things.

First of all, if the cause of the detour is our own disobedience to the will of God, let us go back to the place where we left the path of God and once again walk the path of the will of God.

Second, when the detours of life occur according to the will of God, let us trust in the plan of God. When the life of Job became a detour because of many calamities, he wrote, Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.
(Job 13:15)

Third, even when our life takes a detour, the Lord is with us.
Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
(Joshua 1:9)

あなたのラッキーナンバーは何ですか？　私には、ラッキーナンバーはありませんが、7が好きです。
なぜなら7は聖書の中に700回以上出るからです。
黙示録だけで50回以上出ます。
聖書の中で7は「完全」や「完成」を表すナンバーです。
しかし、７は本当にラッキーナンバーでしょうか。
「Luck」や「Lucky」と言う言葉は聖書に何回出ると思いますか？
一回も出ません。これは意義のある事です。
なぜなら、クリスチャンは「Luck」に頼りません。

辞書の定義によると「Luck」は「偶然による成功です」クリスチャンは自分の人生の出来事が偶然に起こる事ではなく、神様のご計画による目的によって起こる事だと信じています。
ローマ人への手紙8:28に「神を愛する人々、すなわち、神のご計画に従って召された人々のためには、神がすべてのことを働かせて益としてくださることを、私たちは知っています。」と書いてあります。

もし、私達が行く所どこにおいても、主を求めるなら主は、私達の道をまっすぐにしてくださいます。だから私達は「Luck」に頼る必要がありません。（箴言3:6）

　　　 

LUCKY NUMBERS 

An Englishman named Alex Bellos wrote a book about lucky numbers. According to that book, the most popular lucky numbers in the world are these numbers.

10th place 11
9th place 2 (especially popular in China)
8th place 6 (especially popular in China)
7th place 9 (especially popular in Norway)
6th place 13 (unlucky in America)
5th place 5 (especially popular in China)
4th place 4 (unlucky in China and Japan)
3rd place 8 (especially popular in China and Japan)
2nd place 3 (In America there is the saying “good things come in threes.”)
1st place 7 (the favorite lucky number of 25% of Americans)

What is your lucky number? I do not have a lucky number, but I like the number 7 for it appears over 700 times in the Bible. It appears over 50 times in Revelation alone. In the Bible, the number 7 represents [perfection] or [completeness].

But is 7 really a lucky number? How many times do you think the words [luck] and [lucky] appear in the Bible? Not even once. This is significant because Christians do not depend on luck.

According to the dictionary definition [luck] is [success that comes by chance]. Christians believe that the events of their lives happen not by chance but according to the purpose in the plan of God. In Romans 8:28 it is written, And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

If we will acknowledge the Lord in all our ways, He will direct our paths, so there will be no need to rely on luck.
(Proverbs 3:6)

グラディス・ブリルと言うアメリカ人は92歳でフルマラソンを完走しました。

この人々は自分が上の事をするには「TOO OLD」すなわち、もう年をとり過ぎていると思わないで、年齢に縛られない人生を送りました。

先月、私が日本聖書バプテスト神学校の卒業式で説教した時、先輩方の事を思い出しました。ほとんどの人が神学校は青年達が牧師や宣教師になるために行く学校だと思っています。しかし、先月、神学校を卒業した２人は50歳と40歳でした。

聖書にも、年をとってから神様に用いられた人々の事が書いてあります。例えば、モーセがイスラエル人をエジプトから連れ出すために主に選ばれた時、すでに80歳でした。
（出エジプト記3章）
そして、アブラハムが自分の国を出て、神様が示す地へ行くように命令された時、もう75歳でした。（創世記12章）

皆さん、私たちは神様に仕えるのに決して「TOO OLD」になりません。 何歳になっても、詩篇71:18に書いてある祈りをしましょう。
「年老いても、しらがになっても、神よ、私を捨てないでください。私はなおも、あなたの力を次の世代に、あなたの大能のわざを、のちに来るすべての者に告げ知らせます。」

　　　  

TOO OLD ?

Momofuku Ando invented Ramen Cup Noodles when he was 61 years old.
Colonel Sanders started KFC at the age of 65.
Ronald Reagan became the President of America at age 69.

Tamae Watanabe climbed Mount Everest at the age of 73.
Minoru Saito sailed around the world at the age of 77.
Yuuichiro Mimura climbed Mount Everest at the age of 80.

An American named Gladys Burrill ran a full marathon at the age of 92.
Seiichi Igarashi climbed Mount Fuji at the age of 100.

These people did not think they were too old to do the above things.
They lived a life that was not restricted by their age.

Last month, when I preached at the graduation service of Japan Baptist Bible College, I remembered these people. Many people think that Bible College is a place where young people go to become pastors or missionaries; however, the two students who graduated last month were 50 years old and 40 years old.

In the Bible too we can read the stories of people who were used by the Lord after they became old. For example, Moses was 80 years old when he was chosen by God to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt (Exodus 3), and Abraham was 75 years old when God commanded him to leave his home and go to the land which God would show to him (Genesis 12).

We never get TOO OLD to serve God. No matter how old we become, let us pray the prayer in Psalm 71:18.
Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come.

8名の大統領がこの大学で教育を受けました。ケネディとブッシュとオバマの3名はその中で最も有名な大統領です。

去年この大学は、教会に行く子供達についての研究結果を発表しました。その発表によると、教会に行く事が子供達に良い影響を与えます。

1．彼らは、積極的な性格になります。
2．彼らは、人生に満足を見つける事ができます。
3．彼らは、健康的な生活をします。それはタバコ・アルコール・麻薬を避けるからです。
4．彼らは社会福祉活動に参加します。
5．彼らは、精神的に強くなります。

さらに、Devos Center for Religion and Civil Societyと言う団体の研究の結果によると、教会に行く事に次の三つの価値があります。

1．子供は、良い習慣を覚えて、それを守ります。
2．子供は、もっと社交的な人になります。
3．子供は、人生の問題を乗り越える事ができます。

聖書の教えもこの２つの研究の結果を支持します。
「自分を知恵のある者と思うな。主を恐れて、悪から離れよ。 それはあなたのからだを健康にし、あなたの骨に元気をつける。」箴言３:７～８

「 わが子よ。私のことばをよく聞け。私の言うことに耳を傾けよ。 それをあなたの目から離さず、あなたの心のうちに保て。 見いだす者には、それはいのちとなり、その全身を健やかにする。」箴言4:20～22

　　　 

CHILDREN WHO GO TO CHURCH

One of the most prestigious universities in America is Harvard University. Eight presidents received their education at Harvard. Kennedy, Bush, and Obama are among them.

Last year Harvard announced the results of research into children who go to church. According to that announcement, going to church has the following good influence on children:

1- Their personality is a positive personality.
2- They are able to find satisfaction in life.
3- They live a healthy lifestyle because they avoid tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.
4- They are involved in social movements.
5- They are strong mentally.

Furthermore, according to the results of research by an organization called Devos Center for Religion and Civil Society, there are three benefits in going to church.

1- The child learns good habits and keeps them.
2- The child becomes a more sociable person.
3- The child is able to overcome problems in his life.

The teaching of the Bible affirms the results of this research.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.
(Proverbs 3:7-8)

My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.
(Proverbs 4:20-22)
