本当に大丈夫ですか？

鹿児島に住んでいる息子の家に行く時、私は小倉東ICから九州高速道路で鹿児島空港ICの出口まで行きます。もちろん、高速に入る前にETCカードを入れます。

先月、息子の家に行った時、私は、いつものように鹿児島空港ICの料金所に向かって行きました。高速に入る前にETCカードを入れたのでカードが入っていると思っていました。

しかし、料金所に近づいた時ゲートは開きませんでした。ETCカードがてっきり入っていると思い込んでいました。「ゲートがそろそろ開くだろう」と思ったが、やはり開きませんでした。私は、急ブレーキを踏んでゲートの1mほど手前で車を停止することができました。

私は、早速ETCカードを調べて、やはり入っていませんでした。カードが絶対に入っていると思い込んでいたので大変危険な事故に遭うところでした。

高速の出口から息子の家に行く途中、この聖書の箇所を考えていました。
「立っていると思う者は、倒れないように気をつけなさい。」Ⅰコリント人への手紙10:12

マタイの福音書26:33でペテロは、キリストに言いました。
「たとい全部の者があなたのゆえにつまずいても、私は決してつまずきません。」そして35節で彼は、言いました。
「たとい、ごいっしょに死ななければならないとしても、私は、あなたを知らないなどとは決して申しません。」
その晩、ペテロは、3回もキリストを知らないと言ってしまいました。

朝、家を出る前に祈らない私たち、聖書を読まない私たちは、大丈夫だと思っているかもしれませんが、私たちは、車を運転していて開かないゲートに向っている愚かな者です。

　　 

ARE YOU CERTAIN YOU ARE OKAY?

When I go to visit my son in Kagoshima, I get on the Kyushu Expressway at Kokura Higashi and go as far as the Kagoshima Airport exit. Of course, before I get on the expressway, I enter my ETC card.

Last month, when I went to visit my son, as always, I got off at the Kagoshima Airport exit and headed for the toll gate. I had entered my ETC card before I got on the expressway, so I thought it was still entered. However, as I approached the toll gate, it did not open. I was certain that I had entered my ETC card, so I thought, “The gate will open any time now,” but it did not open. I slammed on the brake and was able to stop the car about one meter from the gate.

Right away I checked the ETC card. Just as I thought, it was not entered. Because I was certain that the card was in, I was in danger of causing a terrible accident.

As I drove from the exit to the home of my son, I was thinking about this Bible verse: Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
(First Corinthians 10:12)

In Matthew 26:33 Peter said to Christ, Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble. And then, in verse 35 he said, Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You! That night Peter denied Christ three times.

When we leave the house in the morning without praying or reading the Bible, we may think we are okay, but we are riding in a car that is headed for a gate that will not open.
