コロナウイルスの感染を防ぐために、世界国々の政府は、市民たちに「Stay at home」を命令しました。
「不要不急の外出自粛」という意味です。

17世紀にイギリスのイーム村の人々は、自分たちを隔離しました。1665年にロンドンでペスト感染が発生し街中に広がりました。一年半の間にロンドンの25%の人が死亡しました。

1665年の秋には、このペストは、小さなイーム村に感染しました。42人が死亡しました。1666年の春に村の人々は、町を出る決心をしました。
しかし、町の教会の牧師は、ペストが近隣の村に拡散し感染する事を阻止するために村民に残るように頼みました。彼らは、牧師の願いに賛成して、イーム村に残りました。

翌年、村の750人のうちの260人が死亡しましたが、彼らの勇敢な決断によって近隣の村や大都市へ感染する事を阻止し、多くの命を守り抜きました。

キリストの言葉によると、イーム村の人達が
示した愛は、最高の愛です。 
「人がその友のためにいのちを捨てるという、これよりも大きな愛はだれも持っていません。」
ヨハネの福音書15:13
私たちが本当に他の人を愛しているなら、その人のためにどんな犠牲でも、例えば命を捨てる犠牲さえも払います。

キリストご自身がこの犠牲的な愛の模範を
残してくださいました。
「キリストは、私たちのために、ご自分のいのちをお捨てになりました。それによって私たちに愛がわかったのです。ですから私たちは、兄弟のために、いのちを捨てるべきです。」Ⅰヨハネの手紙3:16

　　　 

STAY AT HOME　

To prevent the spread of the Corona virus, the governments of many countries have ordered their citizens to “stay at home.” It means, “Quarantine yourselves in your home.”

In the 17th century the people in a small town called Eyam in England voluntarily quarantined themselves. In the 17th century the bubonic plague spread throughout the city of London. In one year 25% of the population of London died.

In the fall of 1665 the plague came to a small town called Eyam. 42 people died, so in the spring of 1666 the people of Eyam decided to leave the village. However, the pastor of the town’s church urged the people to remain in Eyam to prevent the plague from spreading to surrounding villages. The people of Eyam agreed with his request and remained in the village.

In the next year 250 of the 760 people in the village died, but their sacrificial conduct saved the lives of the people in the other villages.

According to the words of Christ, the love that the people of Eyam showed is the greatest love.
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
(John 15:13)
If we truly love another person, we will make any sacrifice, for example, even laying down our life, for that person.

Christ Himself left us an example of this sacrificial love.
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
(First John 3:16)

私は77歳です。
今までにオーストラリアの山火事、日本の津波のような各国での出来事をニュースで見たことがありますが、現在このように全世界で拡散している恐怖を見たことがありません。
今月の11日にWHOは、新コロナウイルスは、パンデミック（世界的な流行）と認定しました。
140ヵ国以上で新コロナウイルスに感染している人々がいます。

このパンデミックは、世界中の教会にも影響を与えています。
来月まで全ての集会を中止した教会もります。
外国の教会では、教会員に家庭集会や牧師の説教をインターネットで礼拝する事を促しています。
小倉教会も今月20日に予定していた子供ピクニックを中止しました。

私は、このパンデミックを軽んじるつもりではありませんが、それよりもっと恐ろしいウイルス感染があります。
罪というパンデミックです。

ニュースなどの情報によると、現在、世界で18万人以上の人々が新コロナウイルスに感染しています。聖書によると、すべての人々は、罪に感染しています。
ローマ人への手紙3:23に「すべての人は罪を犯した」と書いてあります。
また、ローマ人への手紙5:12に「全人類が罪を犯した」と書いてあります。

医学の研究者は、一生懸命にコロナウイルスを治療するワクチンを研究していますが、まだそれを発見することはできません。
しかし、罪の治療方法はあります。
「イエスの血はすべての罪から私たちをきよめます。」
Ⅰヨハネの手紙1:7
十字架の上で全ての人々のために死んで下さったキリストを信じる信仰は、罪に感染している人々のためのワクチンです。

　　　 

PANDEMIC　

I am 77 years old. I have seen many events like the fires in Australia and the tidal wave in Japan that affected one area of the world, but I have never seen anything like the fear that is spreading across the whole world right now. On March 11 WHO declared the Corona virus to be an pandemic. There are people infected with the virus in over 140 countries.

The pandemic is having an affect on many churches. Some churches have cancelled services through next month, and other churches are urging the members to worship at home or watch the sermon of the pastor on the Internet. The Kokura church cancelled the picnic on the 20th.

I do not intend to make light of this pandemic, but there is an even more fearful pandemic. It is a pandemic called sin.

According to the information I saw, currently over 180,000 people are infected with the virus. According to the Bible, all people are infected with sin. In Romans 3:23 and in Romans 5:12 it is written, All have sinned.

Medical researchers are searching desperately for a vaccine that will cure the virus, but they have been unable to find one. However, there is a cure for sin. The blood of Christ cleanses us from all sin. (First John 1:7) Faith in Christ who died on the cross for our sins is the vaccine for those who are infected with sin.

コロナウイルス感染の増加を防ぐために、今スポーツのイベントは、無観客席で行われています。相撲春場所もそうです。
観客と応援のない相撲を見ましたか。
春場所初日をテレビで見た時、私は驚きました。
本当に異様な光景でした。
「待ったなし！」や「手をついて！」という行司の声が大阪府立体育会館内に響き渡りました。

この異様な雰囲気を感じたのはテレビを見ているファンだけではありません。
関取もそうでした。いつもファンの声援に励まされている力士・炎鵬は、言いました。
「私は、闘争心が出ない！　何のために戦っているのかな～」

炎鵬のインタビューを新聞で読んだ時、クリスチャンがお互いに励まし合うことの大切さを考えさせられました。
私は、教会の牧師ですが闘争心が出ない時があります。
あなたもその様な時がありますか？　
激しい試練に合う時、あるいは伝道が望んでいる結果とは違う時、主と福音のために戦う気力が衰えるのです。

こんな時、私たちに闘争心を奮い立たせるのは、他のクリスチャンの励ましの声です。
「がっかりしないで！ 頑張って！ 主は、あなたと共におられるのです！」　
「神が私たちの味方であるなら、だれが私たちに敵対できるでしょう。」ローマ人への手紙8:31

これは、少しおかしい言い方かもしれませんが教会は、一人ひとりのクリスチャンのファンクラブであるべきです。
お互いの声援から戦う力を得て、信仰の戦いを勇敢に戦いましょう。
「いっしょに集まることをやめたりしないで、かえって励まし合い、かの日が近づいているのを見て、ますますそうしようではありませんか。」

A Strange Atmosphere 

In order to prevent the increase of the Corona virus patients, right now many sports events are being held without fans. The spring sumo tournament is one of those. Have you ever watched sumo when there were no fans? When I watched the first day of the tournament on TV, I was amazed. It truly was a strange atmosphere. When the sumo referee shouted, “Matta nashi” or “te o tsuite”, his voice echoed throughout the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium.

The fans were not the only ones who sensed the strange atmosphere. The wrestlers did too. Enho said, “The will to fight just wasn’t there. I thought, ‘What am I fighting for?’”

When I read the words of Enho, they caused me to think about the importance of Christians encouraging one another. Although I am a pastor, there are times when I lose the will to fight. Do you have times like that? When we face a painful trial, or when the results of our evangelism are not the results that we desired, we lose the will to fight for the Lord and for the gospel.

In times like these, that which restores to us the will to fight is the voice of encouragement of another Christian. “Do not be discouraged! Hang in there! The Lord is with you. If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

This may be a strange way of saying it, but the church should be the fan club of each Christian. Let’s receive strength by cheering each other on and fight the good fight of faith.
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)

今、世間の人々に「あなたは、何が欲しいですか？」と聞くと、彼らは「トイレットペーパー」と答えるかもしれません。
現在、近隣のどの店にもトイレットペーパーがありません。
月曜日に私が買い物に行った時、店の棚にはトイレットペーパー、ティッシュペーパー、キッチンタオル、マスクもありませんでした。

先日、鹿児島に住んでいる息子から面白い電話がありました。
「パパ、トイレットペーパーを送りましょうか。鹿児島にたくさんありますよ！」

クリスチャンに「あなたは、何が欲しいですか？」と聞いたら、クリスチャンも「トイレットペーパー」と答えるかもしれませんが、クリスチャンが願うべきもっと大切なことがあります。
Ⅱコリント人への手紙5:9でパウロは、この言葉でその願いを書きました。「わたしたちの念願とするところは、主に喜ばれることです。」

もちろん、私たちは親、夫、妻、友達に喜ばれる人になりたいと思いますが、クリスチャンは、まず神様に喜ばれる人になることを望むべきです。
なぜでしょうか。10節にこう書いてあるからです。
「なぜなら、私たちはキリストのさばきの座に表れて、善であれ悪であれ、各自その肉体にあってした行為に応じて報いを受けることになるからです。」
Ⅱコリント人への手紙5:10

パウロは、コロサイ人の信者たちのために、この祈りをしました。
「主にかなった歩みをして、あらゆる点で主に喜ばれるように。」コロサイ人への手紙1:10

私は、小倉教会のクリスチャンであるあなた方のために同じ祈りをします。
なぜならガラテヤ人への手紙1:10によると、もし私たちが神様ではなく人を喜ばせようとするならば私たちは、キリストのしもべとは言えないからです。

　　　 

WHAT DO YOU WANT?　

At the present time, if you asked a lot of people, “What do you want”, they might reply, “Toilet paper.” There is no toilet paper at any of the stores in this area. When I went shopping on Monday, there was no toilet paper or tissue paper or kitchen towels in the store.

I received an amusing telephone call from my son who lives in Kagoshima. He said, “Dad, shall I send you some toilet paper? We have plenty of it in Kagoshima.”

If we asked Christians, “What do you want?” they too might reply, “Toilet paper.” However, there is something more important that Christians should desire. Paul wrote about that desire in Second Corinthians 5:9. Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him.

Of course we want to please our parents, husband, wife, and friends, but a Christian should first of all desire to be a person who is pleasing to the Lord. Why? Because this is what is written in verse 10: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Paul prayed this prayer for the believers in Colosse: that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him. This is the same prayer that I pray for each Christian of the Kokura church because, according to Galatians 1:10, if we try to please men and not God, we cannot say that we are a servant of Christ.

私は、毎年必ず目の検査を受けます。
日本では、完全な視力は2.0です。
今年の検査の結果によると、私の左の目の視力は0.9ですが、右の目の視力は0.1です。
あなたの目の視力は、どのくらいですか。

さあ皆さん、目の検査を受けましょう。
それは身体の目では、ありません。
霊的な目の検査です。
聖書によると、これは霊的視力の良いクリスチャンの特長です。

霊的視力の良いクリスチャンは、見えないものに目を留めます。
「私は、見えるものにではなく、見えないものにこそ目を留めます。見えるものは一時的であり、見えるものはいつまでも続くからです。」
Ⅱコリント人への手紙4:18

霊的視力の良いクリスチャンは、他人の欠点に目を留める前に、まず自分自身の欠点に目を留めます。
「兄弟に向かって、『あなたの目のちりを取らせてください。』などとどうして言うのですか。見なさい。自分の目には梁があるではありませんか。まず自分の目から梁を取り除けなさい。」
マタイの福音書7:4-5

霊的視力の良いクリスチャンは、聖書のうちにある奇しいことに目を留めます。
そうするために詩篇119:188に書いてある祈りをします。
「私の目を開いてください。私が、あなたのみおしえのうちにある奇しいことに目を留めるようにしてください。」

あなたの霊的な目の検査は、良い結果ですか？
あなたの霊的な目の視力は、完全な2.0ですか？
あるいは、私の右の目と同じような0.1の視力ですか？
もし、あなたの霊的視力があまり良くなければ、クリスチャンの眼科医である神様に目をきよめていただきましょう。

　　　 

EYE EXAM　

Every year I always have an eye exam. In Japan, perfect vision is 2.0. According to the result of my eye exam this year, the vision in my left eye is 0.9, but the vision in my right eye is 0.1. How is your vision?

Let us have an eye exam. However, this examination is not an examination of your physical eye but an examination of your spiritual eye. These are the characteristics of Christians who have good spiritual vision.

Christians who have good spiritual vision look at things that are not seen.
We do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
(Second Corinthians 4:18)

Christians who have good spiritual vision look at their own faults before they look at the faults of other people.
How can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? First remove the plank from your own eye. (Matthew 7:4-5)

Christians who have good spiritual vision look at the wonderful teachings in the Word of God. In order to do that, we pray this prayer in Psalm 119:18.
Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from your law.

Was the result of the examination of your spiritual eyesight a good result? Is your spiritual vision a perfect 2.0 or is it 0.1 like the vision in my right eye? If your spiritual vision is not very good, let’s go to God, the eye doctor of the Christian, and have Him cleanse our eyes.
