死んだ者たちと生きている者たちとの間に立つ

1994年1月17日午前4:30頃ロサンゼルス市ノースリッジ地方でマグニチュード6.7の直下型地震が発生。
男性がちょうどその時、高速道路を車で走行していました。
橋を渡る寸前でしたが、途中で彼は、前方車のテールライトが急に消えたのに気付き、車をストップさせました。
見に行った時、その光景に驚きました。
橋の中央部分は、地震の衝撃により寸断され落下していました。
他の車も橋に次々に近づきました。
彼は、必至に手を振ったのに、無視して4台の車は、次々に落ちてしまいました。

次にバスが近づいて来ました。
彼は、シャツを脱いで一生懸命それを振りました。
バスは、徐々に近づいてきましたが、彼は、高速道路のセンターに立ち体を張って動こうとしませんでした。
バスは、それを見て止まりました。
バスの運転手は、橋の危険な状態を察知して、バスを横付けにして道を塞ぎました。

この話を牧師の説教を通して聞いた時、私は、民数記16:48に書いてある言葉を思い出しました。
「彼は死んだ者たちと生きている者たちとの間に立った。」この言葉は、見事に神様の証人であるクリスチャンの任務を説明する言葉です。
聖書によると、キリストを信じていない人々は、滅びに向かっています。
マルコの福音書16:15でキリストは、私たちに彼らに福音を宣べ伝える任務を与えました。

橋がなくなっていると分かった人と同じように、私たちも滅びに向かっている人々に警告しなければなりません。「止まれ！ 止まれ！ あなたの道は、滅びに至る道です！」

また、バスの前に立って自分の命を危険にさらした彼と同じように、私たちは、福音を宣べ伝えるために命を投げ出して、主の勇敢な証人となりましょう。

　　　 

STANDING BETWEEN
THE DEAD AND THE LIVING 

On January the 17th, 1994, at about 4:30 in the morning, a 6.7 magnitude earthquake occurred near Los Angeles. A man was driving on the expressway just at that time. He intended to cross a bridge, but when the taillight of the car in front of him suddenly disappeared, he stopped his car. When he went to look, he was amazed. The middle portion of the bridge had fallen into the sea because of the earthquake. Other cars were approaching the bridge, so he waved his hands frantically, but four cars fell into the sea.

This time a bus came. He stood in the middle of the road, took off his shirt and waved it desperately. The bus came closer and closer, but he would not move, so the bus stopped. When he heard about the bridge, the bus driver used the bus to block the road.

When I heard this story in the sermon of another pastor, I remembered the words written in Numbers 16:48.
He stood between the dead and the living. These words brilliantly explain the mission of Christians who are the witnesses of God.
According to the Bible, people who do not believe in Christ are headed to destruction. In Mark 16:15 Christ gave us the mission to preach the gospel to them.

Like the man who realized that the bridge was gone, we too must warn people who are headed to destruction.
“Stop! Stop! Your way is the way that leads to destruction!”

Also, like the man who stood in front of the bus and risked his life, let us hazard our lives for the gospel and become courageous witnesses of the Lord.
