昔から人の青春を取り戻す「青春の泉」についての伝説があります。
特に16世紀には、この泉についての物語が沢山ありました。

1513年にスペインの探検家ポンセ・デ・レオンは、アメリカまでその泉を探しに行きました。
彼が見つけた泉は、フロリダ州のセント・オーガスティンという町にあります。
この町は母教会から遠くなく、ある時私は「青春の泉」を見に行った事があります。

もちろん私は、その伝説を信じませんが正直に言うと、その泉の水を飲んだ時「もしかしたら」と思いました。
残念なことに、その泉の水には人の青春を守る力がなかったので、現在、私は78歳の年寄りになりました。

体の青春を守る方法は、ありませんが、クリスチャンの魂と霊の青春を守る方法があります。
その方法は、イザヤ書40:31に書いてあります。
「主を待ち望む者は新しく力を得、鷲のように翼をかって上ることができる。走ってもたゆまず、歩いても疲れない。」

主を待ち望むクリスチャンは、自分の魂と霊の青春を守ることができます。主を待ち望む事は、座って何もしないことではありません。
主を待ち望む事は、祈りながら主の導きを待つことです。

また、聖書に書いてある主の約束を信じることです。
例えば「待ち望め。主を。雄々しくあれ。心を強くせよ。」詩篇27:14
英語の聖書には「主を待ち望め。そうすれば、主はあなたの心を強くしてくださる」と書いてあります。

「主は、あなたがたに恵もうと待っておられ、あなたがたをあわれもうと立ち上がられる。主は正義の神であるからだ。幸いなことよ。主を待ち望むすべての者は。」
イザヤ書30:18

　　

THE CHRISTIAN’S
FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH

From long ago there was a legend about a [fountain of youth] that could restore the youth of a person. There were especially many tales about this fountain in the 16th century.

In 1513 Ponce de Leon, a Spain explorer, went to America to search for this fountain. The fountain he found is in the town of St. Augustine in Florida. This town is not far from my home church, so one day I went to the Fountain of Youth. Of course, I did not believe the legend, but to be honest, when I drank the water of that fountain, I thought, “Maybe . . .” Regretfully, there was no power in the water of that fountain to protect the youth of a person, so now I am a 78-year-old man.

Although there is no method of protecting the youth of the body, there is a method of protecting the youth of the soul and spirit of a Christian. That method is written in Isaiah 40:31. Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.

The Christian who will wait on the Lord can protect the youth of his soul and spirit. Waiting on the Lord is not sitting down and doing nothing. Waiting on the Lord is praying and waiting for the leadership of God.

Also, waiting on the Lord is believing the promises of God.
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

The Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.
