「サヨウナラ」ではありません

53年前に日本に来たとき、私は日本の単語を一つしか知りませんでした。
それは「サヨウナラ」でした。
1957年に「Sayonara」という映画があったからです。
振り返ると、私は、この53年間この単語をほとんど使いませんでした。
今度の4月2日に日本を去る時も私は「サヨウナラ」を言うつもりではありません。
なぜだか分かりますか？

まず、私たちは再び会います。
「サヨウナラ］ではありません。
私がまた日本に行けるほど元気になるかどうか分かりませんが私たちは、また天国で会います。
あるいは、キリストの再臨の時に空中で会うかもしれません。
「主は、号令と、御使いのかしらの声と、神のラッパの響きのうちに、ご自身天から下って来られます。それからキリストにある死者が、まず初めによみがえり、 次に、生き残っている私たちが、たちまち彼らといっしょに雲の中に一挙に引き上げられ、空中で主と会うのです。このようにして、私たちは、いつまでも主とともにいることになります。」Ⅰテサロニケ人への手紙4:16-17

また、アメリカに帰国する時、私は心の中に皆さんを連れて行きます。
だから「サヨウナラ」ではありません。
使徒パウロは、ピリピの教会に書きました。
「私は、あなたがたを、心に覚えている。」
ピリピ人への手紙1:7
英語の聖書に
「I have you in my heart」と書いてあります。
私がこの世を去るその時まで、皆さんは私の心に残り続けます。

「私は、いつもあなたがたすべてのために神に感謝し、祈りのときにあなたがたを覚え、絶えず、私の父なる神の御前に、あなたがたの信仰の働き、愛の労苦、主イエス・キリストへの望みの忍耐を思い起こしています。」
Ⅰテサロニケ人への手紙1:2-3

本来「さようなら」は
「さようなら（左様なら）、また会いましょう」
という意味です。

この度、教会の牧師を退任いたしました。
残念ながら今回をもってブログを終了いたします。

IT’S NOT “SAYONARA”  

When I came to Japan 53 years, I knew only one Japanese word. It was “Sayonara”. I knew that word because of a 1957 movie called Sayonara. When I think about it, I have rarely used this word during these 53 years. This Friday too, when I leave Japan, I do not intend to say “Sayonara”. Do you know why?

First of all, because we will meet again, I will not say “Sayonara”. I do not know if I will become healthy enough to be able to come to Japan again, but we will meet again in heaven, or perhaps we will meet in the air at the second coming of Christ.
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
(First Thessalonians 4:16-17)

Second, when I return to America, I will take you with me in my heart, so it is not “Sayonara”. The Apostle Paul wrote these words to the church in Philippi. I have you in my heart. (1:7) You will remain in my heart until the day I leave this earth.

I give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in my prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father.
(First Thessalonians 1:2-3)

"Goodbye" means "Goodbye, see you again".

This time, I have retired from the pastor of the church. Unfortunately, this is the end of the blog.
