11月29日それは、ちょうど8年前、2007年11月29日に私の妻は天に召されました。

妻が天に召される3年前に私は、説教の中でこの話をしました。
「私と妻は1960年に初デートをしました。そして、私たちは1962年に結婚しました。44年間の付き合いです。私の健康を考える人、多分私が先に死ぬでしょう。しかし、何か思いがけない事があって、もし妻が先に天に召されたら、私はその出来事に耐えられないと思います。死後の命が無ければ、つまり私は2度と妻に会えないなら、妻が死ぬ日に私も死にたい」
2004年の説教は、このような内容でした。

11年後の私の心は、少しも変わっていません。もし私が再び妻に会う事ができなければ、生き続ける事は非情に辛い事です。

しかし、聖書のⅠテサロニケ4:13～18によると、
私と妻がまた一緒になる時が来ます。
「眠った人々のことについては、兄弟たち、あなたがたに知らないでいてもらいたくありません。あなたがたが他の望みのない人々のように悲しみに沈むことのないためです。 私たちはイエスが死んで復活されたことを信じています。それならば、神はまたそのように、イエスにあって眠った人々をイエスといっしょに連れて来られるはずです。 私たちは主のみことばのとおりに言いますが、主が再び来られるときまで生き残っている私たちが、死んでいる人々に優先するようなことは決してありません。 主は、号令と、御使いのかしらの声と、神のラッパの響きのうちに、ご自身天から下って来られます。それからキリストにある死者が、まず初めによみがえり、 次に、生き残っている私たちが、たちまち彼らといっしょに雲の中に一挙に引き上げられ、空中で主と会うのです。このようにして、私たちは、いつまでも主とともにいることになります。 こういうわけですから、このことばをもって互いに慰め合いなさい。」

この素晴らしい約束があるので、クリスチャンの皆さん、先に天国に召された家族や友達との再会を期待しながら、日々の命を大切にして、主の栄光を現わすため、また出来るだけ多くの人々に福音を宣べ伝えるために生きて行きましょう。

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

NOVEMBER 29　　

Today is November 29th. Exactly eight years ago, on November 29, 2007, my wife went home to be with the Lord.

Three years before my wife went home to be with the Lord, I spoke these words in a sermon: [My wife and I began dating in 1960. We were married in 1962. We have been together for 44 years. Considering my health, I will probably be the one to die first. However, if the unthinkable happens and my wife goes home to be with the Lord before I do, I don’t think I could stand it. If there is no life after death, in other words, if I will never see my wife again, I want to die on the same day that she dies.]

I spoke these words in 2004. Eleven years later my feelings have not changed even one little bit. If I will never meet my wife again, it’s a painful thing to go on living.

However, according to First Thessalonians 4:13-18, the time is coming when my wife and I will be together again.
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Christians, because we have this wonderful promise, looking forward to a reunion with our family and friends who were called home to be with the Lord before us, let’s live our lives to give glory to God and to preach the gospel to as many people as possible.
