山々が揺れ動いても…

4月13日～17日まで私は調布教会の宣教大会で奉仕をしました。
木曜日の夜に牧師と食事をしてから、ホテルに戻りました。
９時過ぎに別の牧師から電話がありました。
「先生、今テレビを見ていますか？　もし見ていないなら、早くテレビをつけて下さい。九州で地震が起こりました！」
次の2時間、熊本からの放送を見ました。私は48年間九州に住んでいます。今まで激しい台風や火山の爆発がありましたが、この様なかつてない突然の地震災害だったので驚きました。

私は、鹿児島にいる息子に電話しました。息子と家族は無事でした。
小倉教会と九州にある他の教会にも被害がありませんでした。

熊本からの放送を見ながら、聖書の２箇所に思いを潜めました。
最初の箇所は黙示録に書いてある預言です。

「大きな地震があった。この地震は人間が地上に住んで以来、かつてなかったほどのもので、それほどに大きな、強い地震であった。」黙示録16:18

かつて全世界で起こった事のないような大地震、天変地異が起こります。

もう一つの箇所は詩篇46:1～3です。
「神はわれらの避け所、また力。苦しむとき、そこにある助け。 それゆえ、われらは恐れない。たとい、地は変わり山々が海のまなかに移ろうとも。 たとい、その水が立ち騒ぎ、あわだっても、その水かさが増して山々が揺れ動いても。」

私達がキリストを信じてクリスチャンになっても、「ある日突然、大地震が起こるかも知れません。 私達の生活を徹底的に変える出来事があっても神様は私達の避けどころ、またそこにある助け」である事を覚えましょう。

「どんなときにも、神に信頼せよ。あなたがたの心を神の御前に注ぎ出せ。神は、われらの避け所である。」詩篇 62:8

　　　

THOUGH THE MOUNTAINS SHAKE　

April 13-17 I preached in a Missions Conference at the Chofu Baptist Temple. On Thursday evening I had supper with Pastor Ishikawa and then returned to my hotel room. A little past nine o’clock the assistant pastor of the church, Pastor Tokoro, called me. He said, “Are you watching TV? If you’re not, turn on the TV. There has been an earthquake in Kyushu.”

For the next two hours I watched the live broadcast from Kumamoto City. I have lived in Kyushu for 48 years. There have been typhoons and volcanic eruptions, but there has never been a sudden natural disaster like this one. I immediately called my son in Kagoshima. He and his family were safe. There was no damage to the Kokura church or any of the BBF churches in Kyushu.

As I watched the broadcast from Kumamoto, I meditated on two Bible passages. The first one is a prophecy in Revelation.
There was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth.
Some day there is going to be an earthquake greater than all of the earthquakes that have taken place in Japan in the past.

The other passage is Psalm 46:1-3.
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling.

Even though a person believes in Christ and becomes a Christian, some day there may be a sudden “earthquake” that changes his life completely. When that happens, let’s remember that God is our refuge, a very present help in trouble.
Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. (Psalm 62:8)
