雨 と 痛み

今、高校３年生である私の孫ネイサンは、軍人になりたいそうです。
ただの軍人ではなくて、一番逞しい軍人と言われている海兵隊員になりたいと言っています。
毎週２回、海兵隊員の訓練所に行って特別訓練を受けています。
すごく激しい訓練です。私が訓練を見に行った時、訓練の途中で吐く訓練生も2～3人いました。

私は、孫から訓練所の武官が言った事を聞きました。
ある晩、雨が降っていたので、孫は訓練所に電話して、訓練があるかどうか聞きました。
武官は、答えました。
「If it is not raining, it is not training.（雨が降っていないと、訓練にならない。）」
そう意味がわかるでしょう。訓練の状態が悪くなればなるほど本当の訓練になります。
武官が言った事はもう一つあります。訓練の途中、みんなの体はとても痛くなります。
それを見た武官は、言いました。
「The pain is the weakness coming out of your body.（痛みはあなたの体から出る弱さです。）」

私にとって、武官の言葉は、とても印象的でした。
なぜなら、霊的に成長して逞しくなるためにクリスチャンには雨と痛みが必要です。
クリスチャンは、嵐の雨の時にこそ、主に信頼する事が出来ると分かります。
また、人生の試練から至る心の痛みを通してクリスチャンは自分自身の弱い力に頼る事をやめて、主の力に頼る様になります。

だからこそ、Ⅰペテロの手紙1:7には、「信仰の試練は金よりも尊いのです。」
また、Ⅰペテロの手紙5:10によると、主は、雨と痛みを通してクリスチャンを「完全にし、堅く立たせ、強くし、不動の者としてくださいます」

　　　　

RAIN AND PAIN　

My grandson Nathan, who is now a high school senior, wants to be a soldier. He does not want to be just a soldier. He wants to be a Marine. Every week he goes twice to a training center and trains with several others who want to be Marines. It is very hard training. I went with his mother to pick him up, and while we were waiting, a couple of trainees came out and threw up.

My grandson told me a couple of things the training officer said. One night it was raining, so my grandson called to see if there would be any training that night. The training officer replied, “If it is not raining, it is not training.” You understand, don’t you? The worse the training situation becomes, the more real the training becomes.

There is something else the training officer said when he saw the pain of the trainees. “The pain is the weakness coming out of your body.”

The words of the training officer were very impressive to me, because in order to grow spiritually and become tough, Christians need rain and pain. It is in the rain of the storm when a Christian learns that he can trust in the Lord. Also, it is through the pain in our heart that comes from the trials of life that we learn to stop depending upon our own weak power and depend on the power of the Lord.

This is why the trials of faith are said to be more precious than gold in First Peter 1:7. Verse 5:10 of the same letter teaches us that God uses the rain and the pain to make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
