お土産の香り（ドリアン）

ドリアンを食べた事がありますか?
ドリアンを食べた事のある人達はその臭いがテレビン油に混ぜたタマネギの臭いだそうです。

最近タイ旅行に行った兄弟はドリアンで作られたお土産を買って教会に持って来ました。
ポッキーに似ているそのお土産を出す前に兄弟は「これは少し臭いがします」と教えてくれました。
二人の教会員はお土産を嗅いで見て「プロパンガスの臭いがします」と言いました。
私もお土産を取って嗅いで見ましたが、嗅覚はかなり鈍いので、何も嗅ぐ事ができませんでしたが、そのお土産を食べました。
とっても美味しかった。

皆さんにとって、そのお土産は嫌な臭いがしましたが、お土産を持って来た兄弟の行動は香りの良い行動でした。

パウロはピリピ人へ送った手紙にこう書きました。
「私は、すべての物を受けて、満ち足りています。エパフロデトからなながたの贈り物を受けたので、満ち足りています。それは香ばしいかおりであって、神が喜んで受けてくださる供え物です。」ピリピ人への手紙4:18

私達にお土産を持って来てくださった兄弟の愛も香ばしい香りでした。イエス・キリストが私達に示したくださった愛も香りの良い愛です。

「キリストもあなたがたを愛して、私たちのために、ご自身を神へのささげ物とし、香ばしいかおりをおささげになりました。」エペソ人への手紙 5:2b

十字架による死は当時最も忌み嫌われる死に方でしたが、その十字架によって罪の罰から救われた私達にとって、その十字架は香りの良い十字架です。
私たちを救うために御自身を神におささげになったキリストの香りの良い愛に私たちはどのように応えるべきでしょうか。

「ですから、愛されている子どもらしく、神にならう者となりなさい。また、愛のうちに歩みなさい。」

THE SMELL OF THE PRESENT　

Have you ever eaten the durian fruit? People who have eaten durians say that the smell of the durian is like the smell of “onions mixed in turpentine.” A brother who went to Thailand recently brought a present made of the durian fruit to church. Before he gave us that present which looked like a pretzel, he told us, “This has a little bit of a smell.” A couple of the church members smelled it and said, “It smells like propane gas.”

I took it and smelled it too, but my sense of smell is very dull, so I could not smell anything. I ate it. It was delicious.

The smell of that present was unpleasant to everyone, but the smell of the action of the brother who brought it to us was a sweet-smelling fragrance. In his letter to the Philippians, Paul wrote,
But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
（Philippians 4:18)
The love of the brother who brought the present to us was a fragrant love.

The love that Christ showed to us was a fragrant love too.
Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. (Ephesians 5:2b) In those days, death by the cross was the most unpleasant death, but to us who were saved from the penalty of sin by the cross, that fragrance of that cross is a sweet-smelling fragrance.

How shall we respond to the fragrant love of Christ who gave Himself to save us?
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love. (Ephesians 5:1-2a)
