命はいったいどのようなものでしょうか？

「私は、先週の29日にこのメッセージを書きました。」

ちょうど11年前でした。私は寝室に入って妻の名を呼びましたが返事がなかったのでもう一度呼びました。しかし返事がなかった。そして彼女に触れたけど動きませんでした。
その瞬間に私は妻がもう天国に召されていると気付きました。
前日まで妻は元気でしたが寝ている間に脳内出血が起こりました。

聖書は、 私達の短い命をいくつかのものと例えています。
「いのちは、しばらくの間現れて、それから消えてしまう霧のようです。」ヤコブの手紙4:14

「いのちは、過ぎ去る影のようです。」詩篇144:4

「いのちは、野の花のようです。風がそこを過ぎると、それは、もはやない。」詩篇103:15-16

人は誰でも「長く生きたい」と願う者ですが、聖書は私達に明日の命でさえ保証できません。
「あすのことを誇るな。一日のうちに何が起こるか、あなたは知らないからだ。」箴言 27:1

短い命ですから、この世のつまらないものやはかないものにあこがれないで、生き甲斐のある生活をしましょう。また日々、夫や妻や子供達に愛を示しましょう。 なぜなら、今日私達の隣に立っている人は、朝にはそこにいないかも知れないからです。

「主よ。お知らせください。私の終わり、私の齢が、どれだけなのか。私が、どんなに、はかないかを知ることができるように。」詩篇39:4

　　　 

WHAT IS LIFE？　

(I wrote this message on this past Thursday, November 29.)

It was exactly eleven years ago. I went into the bedroom and called my wife’s name. She did not answer, so I called her again. Still there was no answer, so I touched her, but she did not move. In that instant, I realized that she had gone home to be with the Lord. She was fine the day before, but she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while she was sleeping.

The Bible compares our brief life to several things.
Life is like a mist that appears for a short time and then vanishes away. (James 4:14)

Life is like a shadow that passes away.
(Psalm 144:4)

Life is like a flower in the field. The wind passes over it and it is gone. (Psalm 103:15-16)

All people intend to live a long life, but the Bible does not even guarantee tomorrow’s life to us.
Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. (Proverbs 27:1)

It is a brief life, so instead of yearning for the trivial and fleeting things of this world, let’s live a purposeful life. Also, let’s show love to our husband or wife or children daily, for the person standing beside you today may not be there tomorrow.

Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. (Psalm 39:4)
