誰も避ける事ができない選択

妻が天に召された時、私にとって一番大きな問題は食事でした。
以前は、妻がいつも朝・昼・晩、料理を決めて作ってくれていたので、自分でそれを決めなければならないことは、私にとって、とても困難でした。
特に、毎朝起きて、すぐに「何を食べようか」と決めることは、大変な事でした。

しかし、その問題を簡単に解決する方法がありました。
毎朝、同じ物を食べます。
そうです。365日、毎朝、小さなソーセージ２本、トースト、ヨーグルトを食べて、オレンジジュースを飲みます。
こうして私は、朝食の料理を決める選択を避けることができました。

同じように、多くの人々は、上手に避ける選択方法を考えます。
しかし、誰も避ける事ができない選択が一つあります。
ヨシュア記24:15によると、私たちは、どの神に仕えるか決めなければなりません。

ある人は、答えます。
「私は、神の存在を信じないので、選ぶ必要がありません。」
違います。
私たちが最も大切にするものは、私たちの神です。
多くの人々は、仕事・教育・スポーツ・富・快楽などの神々に仕えています。
それは、彼らが自分の意志を持って決めた彼らの神様であり、偶像です。

もちろん、上記のものは、大切で楽しい事ですが、人生の悲劇的な事が起きる時に、何の役に立たない神です。
私たちが助けを必要とする時に、助ける事ができる神様は、一人しかいません。
天と地を創造された真の生ける神様です。ヨシュアと同じ選択をしましょう。
「私と私の家とは、主に仕える。」

THE CHOICE NO ONE CAN AVOID

When my wife went home to be with the Lord, my biggest problem was meals. Until then, every day my wife decided what we would eat morning, noon, and night, so it became difficult when I had to decide by myself. Especially, I did not like having to decide what I would eat for breakfast as soon as I awoke every morning.

However, there was a simple solution to this problem. Every morning I eat the same thing. It’s true. All year long, every morning I eat two small sausages, toast, and yogurt, and I drink some orange juice. In this way I am able to avoid the choice of the content of my breakfast.

Many people are skilled at avoiding choices that they do not want to make; however, there is one choice that no one can avoid. According to Joshua 24:15, we have to decide which God we shall serve.

Some people will reply, “I do not believe in the existence of God, so I do not need to choose.” That is not so. The thing that we make the most important is our God. Many people are serving gods like work, education, sports, wealth, and pleasure. Those are the gods that they chose willingly.

Of course, those things are important and delightful, but when the tragic events of our life take place, they are of no help whatsoever. When we need help, there is only one God who can help us – the true and living God who created the heavens and the earth – so let us make the same choice that Joshua made.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
