燃えなくなった石炭

毎週、教会に行く皆さんに質問します。
「なぜ教会に行くのでしょうか？」
多くのクリスチャンは「教会に行くことは、クリスチャンの義務だから」と答えるかもしれません。
たしかに、クリスチャンは、教会に行くべきです。
しかし、教会に行くもっと素晴らしい理由があります。

まず、私たちは、キリストを愛しているので教会に行きます。
エペソ人への手紙5:25に「キリストが教会を愛し、教会のためにご自身をささげられた」と書いてあります。
だから本当にキリストを愛してクリスチャンは、キリストが愛している教会に行きます。

教会に行く、もう一つの理由は、他のクリスチャンに励まされるためです。
「いっしょに集まることをやめたりしないで、かえって励まし合い、かの日が近づいているのを見て、ますますそうしようではありませんか。」へブル人への手紙10:25

ある牧師は、教会に来なくなった教会員を訪問しました。
家に入ると教会員は、暖炉の前で座っていました。
牧師も暖炉の前に座りました。
教会員は、牧師の説教を待っていましたが、牧師は、何も語りませんでした。

しばらく経って牧師は、火バサミで一個の燃えている石炭を火の中から取り出して、暖炉のそばに置きました。
そして4〜5分経つと、燃えていた石炭は、燃えなくなり消えてしまいました。

未だに、何も語らない牧師は、帰る前に燃えなくなった石炭を火に戻しました。
すると再び燃え出し、一緒になった石炭は、勢いよく燃えるようになりました。

牧師がドアを出る時、その教会員は、走り寄って言いました。
「先生、熱い説教を感謝します。私は、日曜日に必ず教会に行きます。」

　　 

THE COAL THAT STOPPED BURNING  

I would like to ask a question to those of you who come to church every week.
Why do you come to church? Many Christians may answer, “Because going to church is the duty of the Christian.” Certainly, Christians should go to church, but there are more wonderful reasons for going to church.

First of all, we go to church because we love Christ. According to Ephesians 5:25, Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it.
The Christian who truly loves Christ will go to the church that Christ loves.

Another reason for going to church is to be encouraged by other Christians.
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)

A pastor visited a church member who had stopped coming to church. When the pastor entered the home, the church member was sitting in front of a fireplace. The pastor sat down in front of the fireplace. The church member was waiting for a sermon, but for a while the pastor said nothing.

After waiting a while, the pastor took the fire tongs and removed one coal from the fire and placed in beside the fireplace. In 4-5 minutes, the coal stopped burning.

Before he left, still having said nothing, the pastor returned the coal to the fireplace. Being placed among the burning coals again, the coal soon began to burn.

As the pastor left the house, the church member said,
“Pastor, thank you for the fiery sermon. I will go to church on Sunday.”
